The ref was an English ref, Ken Summatorother, and you could see the relief on his face when he blew the final whistle.
This match must go down in the annals as pretty much the worst for behaviour in the World Cup Finals.

Yes the Battle of Santiago is always good for a laugh, the TV "highlights" of that match is my earliest World Cup memory.
For a series of fouls rather than a specific one the way Pele was literally kicked out of the 1966 World Cup with no protection from the refs was a disgrace.
