Its Guinness time any day of the week.
This is NOT a negative approach but a realistic one !!
With whats happened at Eastlands this season, would it really be a disasterous season,as a worst case scenario, if we only came 5th ???
Everyone here at Bluemoon only wants to see one outcome and no-one more than myself.
But if we did press the "self destuct button",would 5th place still be a great season ??
I would be happy. Definately disappointed as we are all looking to see which high profile players we can attract with a possible CL offering on the table.
Having waited like thousands of fand for 34 years, would ONE more season be a true disaster ??
I have no doubt that the guns will come blazing out at me, but its a thought provoking q.BUT BEING REALISTIC would we have taken 5/6th at the beginning of the season, irrespective of what Hughes targets were from the owners ??

It'd be a big disappointment, but an ok achievement, but really now we should just stick to 4th and maybe more

At the start of the season I would have taken it, the best of the rest and all that. The fact that Liverpool have self destructed means we have to take their champions league place. Without that cash they will struggle to strengthen in the summer.

In the grand scheme of things, it probably wouldn't be. We'd still be able to attract quality players, and we'd no doubt further improve next season. But in my head, it would be the greatest disaster to ever befall mankind.

On one side of me i'm thinking; yes, were just 5 games away from the end of the season, 3 of them games being at home and were still favourites, and imo we have a better squad than tottenham or villa. But on the other side of me i'm thinking, before mancini came we were above average and we were a shambles basically and 5th would be the highest we've finished in how many years? but i honestly think we can now get 4th.

Not a disaster.

To be honest im more concerned about getting into the CL and not being good enough and being knocked out in the first round. Think Everton did that a few years back.

We'd need some major investment this summer if we were to sustain a reasonable assault on the Champs League next season.

The Europa league however, I think we could win with the current squad. God awful competition though imo.

I agree with all the pointsmade above apart from the one in bold. Was we all saying that last season?

Yeah we could win it, (EL), but that campaign, along with the PL and cup comps here, would severely hamper our quest for top 4 next season. We should be qualifying this season though and I think we will, comfortably. Everton's squad was poor if I remember rightly, whereas ours would already at least qualify for the group stages, and could have a go at reaching the knockouts. Going out in the knockouts wouldn't be a disappointment and would represent massive progress, but with investment which will happen, we could be looking at the quarters and that would then just promote more top class coming next summer.

Althought starting the thread I forgot to add,the biggest disappointment for me would be the summer and thinking who we may have missed out on by NOT being able to offer CL.
Getting 4th spot and watching the WC and dreaming of some of those Players being in another Sky Blue shirt AKA Argentinian Players.
I hope Carlos can influence some whilst on WC duty.
I bet hes been told by the hierarchy at City, who he needs to "unofficially talk to"
lol

You're sufering an attack of Likkle Cityitis.

1) Whether we're 4th or 5th there will be major investment this summer.

2) Even if there wasn't we'd be good enough with what we've got to hold our own.

Yes.

- 4 points ahead of Spurs.
- Spurs having a game in hand but still having us to play.
- Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea still to play Spurs.

It is 100% ours to lose and if they throw it away given the position we're in then they all need shooting to be honest. Fourth place would give us a different type of player we could attract and we can happily challenge for the title next season with the superior standard of talent that will be at our disposal.

Disappointment yes, disaster by no means. Remember, our owners are here for the 'long term' and finishing 5th would be an achievement. When was the last time we finished in 5th? We got Tevez, Adebayor, Bellamy, Barry, De-Jong to name a few last season and that was going off the back of a dodgy season prior! Who'd come to us now that we've beaten the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and finished 5th?

We're a team now going forward and we mean business. I think after this season we get 5th, we could still attract some pretty good players who are up for the challenge. However, this process would be made a lot easier if we got the 4th spot, and i'm sure there's probably some small bonus for the players if we get it. (?)

Try £1,000,000 each.
