Thought the goalie could have been a bit more awake in.

I remember Arsenal 'scoring' a goal against Sheff Utd (I think) a few years back in a cup game, that in all decency they shouldn't have, but as mentioned, in top flight rules are different.
 
The right thing to do in my opinion is let the other team score or simply make a rule that you are not allowed to score directly when playing the ball back to the opposition in those circumstances.
