Would you go for Andros Townsend? Any other "lesser lights"?

Some talk that Spurs are willing to listen to offers for several players including Defoe & Townsend

I was very impressed with Townsend at the end of last season. He went on loan in January to QPR and was by far their best player. He's extremely direct and just picks up the ball and runs at the opposition.

Probably no good for us now as we have Navas, but if he really is available, then he would be a bargain signing for someone. Reminds me of David Hoillet at QPR who was brilliant at Blackburn and then seemed to vanish at QPR (was he injured?)

I realise most fans expect City to compete for mega-money signings, but when you have recently won the title, and are in the Champions League, why not use your weight to sign some of the best young players in the Premiership? There must be other players like him.

I'll give you another which you will also laugh at but a player who had a good second half of last season and is coming on leaps and bounds: Jordan Henderson.

It's not hard to look decent as a creative player in a terrible team, really don't think he'd look even average in a decent side. You have to assume Spurs don't want him for a reason, given they haven't exactly got a lot of options in the area he plays in. Also, isn't he the one who got banned for betting on games?
No thanks. If we were to go for some english players from lesser clubs then I wouldn't mind someone like Lallana from Southamptom, or Harry Maguire from Sheffield United. Best CB in League 1 for two years in a row and he's still only 20, they have a great record for developing defenders lately.

We invested 50 million in 'lesser lights' last year, but some of the bulbs were found to be wonky. Halogen all the way this summer. :-)

Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Robben, Ronaldo, Cantona were not household names at the very top of their game when English clubs first bought them

Real Madrid and barca and man Utd don't always buy the Grade AAA players. They also buy young players who are just making their name

We seem to be buying the kids for the Academy and stars. maybe we are ignoring a segment of the market. The premiership and manchester City are a huge attraction, but we let the Athletico madrids and Shakhtar Donetsks buy these players. Yet Txiki should have a very good scouting network which we should be able to use

Would be a pointless signing. Not good enough to play regularly and his development would be hampered by spending long periods on the bench.

No problems with us signing lesser lights, but not this one.
