No problem with clubs getting a peg up with money its more or less what's happened at every successful club, think the issue here is its British taxpayers money I'd be a bit pissed off if Balls up Burnham was offering Utd my hard earned.This thread is quite amusing. This is certainly not the first time this type of financing has reared its head in Wales.
Hopefully you’ve heard of the Scarlets - a rugby region based in Llanelli.
Quite a few years ago they were on the verge of going bust. They sold their iconic Stradey Park ground to developers, paid off their £7m debt and moved to a new stadium which was mainly paid for by the local authority.
They still owe millions to the authority who cite the cultural and economic benefits of having a professional team in the town.
Many local residents are still fuming about use of public funds let alone the mess made with the local infrastructure.

Sadly I love Canadians. Family there, spent a happy summer there in my youth. They aren't as brash as Yanks. I can tell a Canadian immediately by the way they pronounce out/ about, pick up loads on TV programmes, Google the actor and yep, Canadian born.Fixed for you.

If I had my time again I'd emigrate there, probably Vancouver,but I absolutely loved Toronto, can't cope with snow though. But that said the first flake doesn't close the schools....... :-)

I have said this before. I have lived in North Wales,10 miles from Wrexham, for almost 20 years. When I first moved here and was in the local pubs watching football, I used to ask the locals (mostly Welsh people) why everyone supported Liverpool and not Wrexham. It seemed odd to me as there was a real pro Welsh/anti English sentiment in sport in general as you can imagine. The general answer was that Wrexham were crap so nobody was interested. I often said that in the first 10 years of living in North Wales, I had met only a handful of people who supported Wrexham. Now I am surrounded by people who have 'supported Wrexham all their lives'.....

Considering it's taken away about 70% of their council budget for the area and probably alienated a great number of people in the area not to mention the country, I would've thought that a better strategy would be to let the multi-millionaire owners pay for it themselves allowing the council to spend their budget on other local facilities in need of regeneration. Surely that's the win-win strategy for the council?That sounds like pretty switched-on investment planning from the Council?
Wrexham pay for their own stadium - Wrexham earn success - council get the same bounce, without spending a penny of their own money. Win-Win?

Swansea were, the Liberty stadium was funded publicly and owned by Swansea Council. The Welsh Govt put half in to the Cardiff groundIt ruddy well isn't.

Because other fans wouldn't be as noisy if their club got it. So, yeah envy does have something to do with it.Why do people always cry "envy" when inequality rears its ugly head? It aint envy mate!
