WSL Everton (A) KO 12:30 Sun Dec 15th

What you hope the players can bring to a game of football - movement, passing accuracy, control, tackling, shooting, tactical nous, defensive solidity - were all sadly deficient. I think that's the most toothless display I've seen from a City women's team. The game against Brighton last season was better.
A little harsh maybe - but I do think this shows we have some way to go to find the solution of no Bunny or Lauren to get goals/ attempts. Showed last year when losing Bunny and trying Kelly up top offered nothing and cost us the title. Same today - we are not that far off but this has been the case for a while. We needed more from the what I call second level of top players. Jess, Laura and Chloe didn't create a single chance today. Mary is always best playing just off a main striker. Viv would add a goal threat and of course Lauren and Bunny will return but will it be too late to win something major?

On a positive note we looked better once Kennedy was taken off and Lily could be a major talent - way ahead of Kelly at the moment in my opinion.

A top central defender is priority 1 especially if Laia is off in the summer. Theresa has a job to do fast because we need to ensure we have a chance in the CL because Chelsea will not drop 6 (in essence 7) points so the title is gone. Get shut of Kennedy, cash in on Kelly before summer when she will leave anyway and go get a top drawer defender who can defend and also pass between the lines early.

As for Taylor - he has been a lot better at times this year but today playing Kennedy against a team that only has pace as a threat was not a good call - how we set up in the second half should have been how we started the game. His plan to make Kennedy the fulcrum of bringing the ball out (even did it in the last game) is not good coaching. I was vocal last year at times about him but apart from today his team choices this season have been ok.

We need a decent manager.
Agree entirely..
The playing squad is as good as it has been for some time but results seem to depend on certain “major” players being fit. When three of those are not playing we are not going to score many and we will leak goals against “poor” sides. Today we were slow in defence and got progressively slower.
I feel sorry for the players as they need better coaching when training and much better, quicker and more direct management during difficult game like today.
I said at the beginning of the season that we should have gone for a new , dynamic manager just like Chelsea did but NO we stuck with Taylor who has no man management and is clueless when we are in trouble. Our plan A is to pass it slow , side to side in defence, backward from midfield and we have no plan B. The supporters and playing squad deserve better but that is not going to happen when we finish second, third or fourth. I suppose it may eventually happen when we finish sixth or lower. It is a pity!!!

This.

We have the squad and need a proper women's coach to kick them onto the next level of dominance here and in Europe.

Whilst I didn't see the game yesterday, I simply cannot understand why those in charge persist with Taylor as manager.

A truly uninspiring choice from day one, and whose time in post has demonstrated time and time again.

Decent players wasted by poor coaching / management imo.

Within a minute of kick off, whether it's our ko or theirs yer can bet a hot Bovril that Alanna has passed to Keating. We need to instruct players to progress to the oppo penalty area in the shortest possible time scale and with the shortest number of passes. We used to do it when Cushing had the brief. The play is slow, laborious and less of a spectacle than it has ever been. I don't put the responsibility at the feet of the players, but the coaching staff.

Exactly right. It's almost as if they think they are playing prime AC Milan. Best not lose the ball girls because Guillitt and Van Basten will wreak havoc. In reality, they are playing against poorer players and teams.
It doesn't help though that the full backs have no pace.
Usually, they can beat the poorer teams with Hemp and Shaw and the laborious build up but when it doesn't work then it's a hard watch
