WSL Man Utd (H) 19/01/25

Wednesday 7pm hopefully!

I’m assuming we can read the obvious into the lack of Kelly in the matchday squad bearing in mind that news earlier - or is she genuinely injured??
Why has Kelly fallen out of favor? I don't get it. Has her performance fallen off? She's always been very good---and a better, more influential player than Fowler when she's in form.

Rotten day at the office for Khiara. She plays a risky a game and you have to accept the downsides that come with that, but today she had an absolute howler. If she could improve her judgement she'd be world class.

We actually played q well for long periods today but we were never off the back foot thanks to the goals we gifted them.

I think Knaak showed enough to suggest she'll be a decent stand in for Greenwood. But we also saw today (and over the past 2 months) that this squad isn't equipped to deal with more than one key absence at a time. No Hemp and no Shaw leaves us too light up front. The lack of directness and physicality was so clear.

Ouahabi needs upgrading too. Keating will be blamed for the third but she played a pass that was clearly what she was expected to do and Ouahabi was half asleep. Cant see it happening this January but we have to upgrade on her in the summer.

Ha, ha: Judgment/decision-making is a huge part of being a keeper.

Kelly has basically been living off her England exploits for about a year or so. Though to be fair to Chloe it's very difficult to show up when all your chances come in bit minutes as a late substitute. I've not heard her slag off Taylor or the club in public so maybe in training she's just not doing enough to earn a starters slot or her relationship with Taylor has deteriorated so badly that it's time to part ways (just not to the ragettes though please). Fowler was one of our better players today and for someone who is still adapting to playing as a winger I think she did remarkably well for a team that was determined to shoot itself in the foot.

Tbh I really don't know. She wouldn't be popular in these parts but Casey Stoney's CV is already hugely impressive and she was available up until last week.
She was good manager for them but her players were limited. She did well with them. I don't think she would want to come to us anyway. Maybe Sojgran will have some ideas.

Agreed. I’ve changed my view on this. I was previously in the ‘give Mary a chance’ camp when Kelly was playing but not very effectively.

But now, having seen Fowler for a sustained period, I’ve seen she has significant weaknesses to her game and can often appear ineffective and peripheral on the pitch.

What really changed it for me was going to the Everton away game before Xmas when you can stand right next to the pitch. Kelly came on, and seeing her up close was a revelation. Her body shape and movement off the ball, her runs, her touch our of her body when she receives the ball is so, so good, and a visible cut above a lot of the other players around her.

Ouahabi Is a poor player - totally one footed, poor positioning and switches off frequently.

You wouldn't believe it the way some here speak of her. I suppose we all have our favourite players And to be fair, I do as well.

Some of us love the club and think they can never do wrong. Ever. The men's team forums are littered with this type. I love City but sometimes don't always agree with every decision. Similar to loving a family member and always taking up for them in public or being on their side but also being able to say, "That was a really fucking stupid decision you made."

Fully agreed mate.

Kelly at her best is quicker and more dynamic than Fowler, IMO. I can only assume the coaches have determined she hasn't been at her best, but as someone above noted, it's hard for fans to know given how little she's played in the last two months or longer.

Injuries to important players are bound to have an effect, but like the men's team more squad depth is needed particularly up front. The constant messing about at the back drives me nuts. For several seasons virtually every goal conceded stems from losing the ball in our last third of the pitch and it has cost us big time in important games. The team appears to play a negative pattern and they stick to that pattern no matter what. Look for a forward pass rather than check and pass back, that might open up opposition defences more often. The ragette's stood just far enough off to encourage the pass out, but as soon as the pass started to be made they were on the move hunting down the player receiving the ball and we all saw the result, 4 goals handed to the opposition on a plate, yet the team carried on playing in the same way putting our own players under uneccessary presure. Khiara was made to look bad due to our inflexible tactics. Sadly I'can't see us ever winning the league with GT in charge. Alternatives? well there is a WSL winning manager currently out of a job. Nick Cushing! bring The Goat back! Andy Morrison (given his success in the Welsh Premier League) or Steph Houghton/ Karen Bardsley to name just 5, all with impeccable MCFC connections.

Thought the singer before the match was brilliant and she’s raised over £15000 for Manchester Children’s hospital. That and the light show were the few bright spots in a pretty embarrassing performance.

Need to get Yui Hasegawa on the ball more. Easily the most technically gifted midfielder we have.

This was the major concern last night. We got away with most but sooner or later teams are not gonna draw a blank when yer gift 'em so many chances. I think it stems from playing the fuckin' ball backwards all the time. It seems that the first option defenders consider is give it back to the goalie. They then can't decide which option to take and yer've forwards bearing down like a pack of wolves.

Yep - I also think we lack real movement ahead of them. Only Aoba was moving into space last evening. I thought as a team we are too static when Bunny & Lauren are out. Jess as good as she can be has been kind of found out in midfield during the last few games. Perhaps a coaching issue but we have the players capable of playing at a higher pace. It was interesting to me that Rebecca Knaap comes in (from maybe a better coached team) and always looks to play first time forward to feet. I have no doubt that after Taylor puts his stamp on her she will begin to look back and sideways!

It really is time for a coaching change - I have faith that Theresa will be thinking similar quite quickly.

A loan deal! The richest club in the universe and they want a fuckin' loan deal? Risible. Oh, hang on, they want such a massive state of the art stadium that they've gone to the 'great 'n good' to drum up a tax handhout. Perhaps they are skint, or more n' likely they've just been bought into by the Scrooge of Failsworth.
