Wydad AC (N) | CWC | Post Match Thread

OH MY GOD!!!! This place gets worse! It was a first game of the season with no where near our preferred first XI. Fucking half whit idiots on here. Think it’s time to bin this place off. Very difficult to have a half intelligent conversation or reasonable onsite into anything City anymore.
First game of the new season or the latest game of this season? Our last game in the prem was less than 4 weeks ago our next prem game is light years away by comparison.

We were never going to learn an awful lot from this game tbh. They were actually better than I expected though. Moved the ball quick, had bags of pace and created a good few openings without the killer touch you’d expect from a better side.

I get that some expected a massive and convincing thrashing after the hype of the new signing but that was never going to be the case was it.

Pre season vibes from us. New players, new ideas, and some of the same shortcomings coming through over the 90 minutes.

Positives were Reijnders who was brilliant first half, Phil started well and could’ve got 2, Doku looked dangerous and I thought Savinho looked good first half.

Second half we looked more solid at the expensive of taking out the creativity. I’m sure Pep will get the balance more refined as time goes on.

Cherki was poor but wouldn’t read too much into it. Playing his first game away from Lyon in his entire senior career, debut for us, bound to be nervous at 21. Looked like he was trying too hard at times. He’ll come good.

Thought Rico was fine despite the red which was harsh, but still didn’t show enough to give me confidence he can be a mainstay at right back. We seriously need one.

Looking forward to seeing a more balanced starting 11 as the tournament goes on

OK, the fact he won the ball doesn't automatically mean no fowl! The key factor is whether the challenge is considered careless, reckless, or involves excessive force, endangering the opponent.
But looking at a rulebook wouldn't change the fact he WON the ball..he wasn't reckless or using excessive force..the impact was because the other player also slid in.. if anything sliding in and not winning the ball is more reckless .. it was unfortunate that the player was caught but it happens in contact sports..I think we will just have to disagree on the red card mate

Perfect summation

Fuck me - someone with a brain

Fucking hated the undeserved shite Edghill got, likewise with Rico now. City fans can sometimes be the biggest dickheads going.
He’s 100% not got what it takes to start regularly at fullback for us but it’s not his fault he keeps being asked to

Good player to have in the squad though as versatile and can plug gaps as a short term option

Always seems to work hard too

Must admit I’ve largely been staying away from the football forums and just a few posts read and wondering why I should bother.

That was ok. First half better than second but things improved again when Pep paired Rodri and Gundo and they got the game back under control.

I am sure Pep will field increasingly strong sides.

Mixed day for the new boys but too soon to jump to conclusions.

Good to see Ake back and thought Reis did well, one awkward moment aside.

It felt like a pre-season game before the game and it was played like one. We didn't learn very much from it and in all fairness, if we'd had to win 5-0 we probably could've done.

First half we looked decent and it was good to see Foden back to something like his best. Doku and Savinho looked dangerous and I was impressed with Reijnders as well. I think he will be a very good signing. Rodri looked a bit rusty which was to be expected really but it was good to see him back - at his best there's no better player.

I was slightly disappointed with Cherki but in all honesty, he probably couldn't have played the game I was expecting from him! :) I think he will come good but not sure what we learnt about players who've just come in from other clubs.

Lewis was slightly unlucky with the red but he was stupid for leaving the leg up. He's not a bad player but he is a player we can easily upgrade on with pretty much any right back in the league in my opinion.

I was slightly disappointed with Wydad, I was hoping to see some decent players but their best wouldn't even trouble us.

Overall, a decent result but one we knew we'd get and didn't expend much effort getting the result.

It's not really been a good advert for the CWC these first few games. I'm hoping it gets going somewhat once we get the better teams into the next round.

Enjoyed that for what it was.

Felt like a pre-season friendly but we got the job done. Attack looked decent, defence was spotty but expectedly so.

I thought it could be a red card actually, it looked like he moved his foot in. He definitely didn't move his foot out.

I don't see the issue. We all know he's a Chelsea man. Why pretend otherwise? Loads of other pundits do it and i respect that far more than somebody pretending they don't have allegiances, most pundits are employed precisely because of their allegiances.

He's one of their regular pundits for this tournament, why wouldn't he be on our game?
He is obviously biased. That’s why. He has no place being a pundit on a rival English team’s game. Can’t believe I really need to articulate this. You might know his allegiance, but you know how when politicians appear on tv and their name appears with their party? Well he needs that. If they did that, less of an issue (but still an issue).

ffs.

Now where’s that brick wall?

So now your changing your argument, originally you stated just that he won the ball and therefore no fowl. Now your claiming it wasn't reckless which is a subjective argument.

I won't read too much into that performance. Plenty of players that are rusty. New players. Players coming back from injury.
Expecting Cherki to be a lot better than that eventually once he's settled and on the same wavelength as the rest of the players. Rodri and Bobby getting minutes.
