How has he gone for such a low fee?

You can't help thnking we would have had to pay at least double that price.....

Would Erikson at Ajax be an equal option?

It's a realistic price for a relatively unproven player, no matter how talented he seems to be. Similar to what we paid for AJ, except AJ only had six months left on his contract and was English.

Erikson's a very different player. He's a playmaker in the Silva/Nasri mould. Shaq is a wide forward/winger who's strong and has electric pace.

A lot of reasons.

First - the Swiss is a country with 3 languages. In the German part they watch German television a lot. Basel is directly on the border to Germany. There is a lot people that e.g. live in the Swiss and work in Germany - or the other way around. The next Bundesliga club Freiburg is just 70 km away. Munich is 350 km away.

So - being a football enthusiastic Shaq certainly grew up with the Bundesliga.

His Ex-coach, his current coach and the coach of the national team all have had long and great times at Bayern. The bosses of both clubs know each other very well - the FCB of the Swiss are in the same position as the FCB of Germany - they are just smaller.

There is no language barrier, he can keep a good connection to his friends and family...

A lot reasons why he goes to Germany - and actually, everybody thought that he somewhen will make exactly that move - Munich is interested since some time and it just was a question when this will be.

Thanks mate. All makes sense!

You answered why he went to Bayern, but the question was how can they get him for this price ?
Very cheap, he worth at least double the agreed price.

Yes, I think he is cheap for an offensive talent in that age - but apart from the CL games it is the Swiss League and the Swiss national team - and not Bundesliga, Premier League, La Liga...

It is difficult to rate somebody like this. The bookvalue on transfermarkt.de was 12.5 million. He is told to have cost 9 millions plus extras depending on the future success Munich has. Similar to Neuer's transfer fee - he will be more expensive if Bayern wins trophies. (So the Schalke fans should be glad, if Bayern has success ;) )

And you never know if the two clubs did not make deals to work together in other parts, you do not know if Shaq had any special clauses etc.

I do not know. I guess a lot Schalke fans would prefer money and Neuer lifting a trophy in leather pants to Großkotz lifting any trophy... When I read Schalke Forums I always get the impression that there is nothing worse than any success that yellow bees have.

The decision might be pretty close without the money so...
