I don’t think I’ve ever heard a young Brazilian described as anything other than ‘the new ..... (insert name of Brazilian great who played in similar position).

Or the 'next Messi' from every other diminutive attacking player who can dribble

It's lazy is all, no one is the next Leo anymore than a Brasilian fullback is the next Dani or Cafu - they are references IMHO. We may never see another like them in our lifetime

So we've got Mendy, Zinchenko & Angelino at LB (with Cancelo sometimes playing there) and 15 year old Juan Larios coming in, and Walker, Cancelo and now this guy at RB. Still no closer to finding a Kompany replacement, and that's with Laporte coming back from a big injury, Otamendi on his way out and Stones in arguably his worst form since he signed.

We need 2 new top CBs, minimum. With Silva, Aguero, Fernandinho & probably Sane on their way out in the next few years, we need to make some serious signings, and while £7.5mil isn't huge, we need to be thinking about the short-medium term.

€15m for a 17 year old who hasn't made his professional debut yet is a "low transfer sum"???
To be fair, Sancho hadn’t made a senior appearance for us I don’t think (?) and went for almost the same amount. If the scouts think he’s a talent, with European exposure we get that money back at a bare minimum in the future. Sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate. If he develops into Alves Mk.II it’s one of the best deals we’ve ever done. If he doesn’t, we get our money back fairly easily after a few loans. I like these kind of signings. Most of the time they won’t develop into the superstar we’d like, but you have to buy a ticket to win the raffle :)

I suppose the difference would be that Dortmund had a first team place ready for him.

We've just spent €60m on Cancelo, 2 years after spending £50m on Walker, and we've also bought Pedro Porro for £11m in the summer as a prospect.

Yeah it’s true we have a totally different approach to Dortmund. They are a haven for young players, we have little choice but to use loans to develop players. Even Foden might require one, we’ll have to see what happens next season. My take is that you never truly know who is going to set the world alight and who isn’t. Putting all our eggs into Porro wouldn’t be wise, nor would only having Couto as a prospect. Earlier in the season there were reports of Cancelo failing to settle, so we’ll have to watch this space on that one. But by the time Walker has to move on, the better of these kids could be ready to join the squad (foreign quota permitting).

And when did united circumvent the work permit regulations?

I don’t know exactly but didn’t Quentin Fortune sign for two top flight clubs and was twice denied a work permit before signing for the Rags and it being a formality ?

I find it strange how you include a 15 and 17 year old for the fullback positions, yet appear to completely ignore Garcia and Harwood-Bellis as potential centre backs.

Buys are buys, you either buy someone or you don't. I've seen nothing to suggest Pep will start either as part of our first choice CB pairing. Fernandinho & Rodri have all gotten games at CB, so it seems Pep doesn't think they're ready. I disagree.
