Yaya contract

Mooy is a good Championship & a decent mid table PL player but I wonder if he has the ability & second gear of pace to play at the elite level.

Best player by a mile at 'udders.

Agree, but that doesn't mean he couldn't do a job against bottom 10 premier league teams for us, the League Cup and to come on with 20 minutes to go when we're 2 nil up. He's not good enough to start, but would be just as effective if not marginally better than Fernando or Delph. As long as we have Fernandinho, Gundogan and another option of a similar standard, I'm quite comfortable with Mooy in our squad.

The thing is we've all watched Mooy loads with him being at Melbourne.

He does look like he could do a job but if he'd played somewhere else in Australia we'd not be even mentioning his name.

It's a bit like our youth players we must be careful not to be blinded by where they are but be more concerned about what they actually offer.

Kindly list them please

Barcelona. Their 'second choice' is a lot stronger than ours in any position.

Bayern. Not as strong but i'd still say they have a lot better quality than ours.

Real Madrid. Same as Barcelona their second options are brilliant. Not so much in fullback positions but they have Varane to come in as CB and in midfield Isco, Kovacic, Casemiro can all come in if the other options are missing.

Need I go on? All I'm saying is we don't have that strong of a squad if certain players are missing especially in the CL. Every team would struggle without their 'first choice' players but our second choice isn't that good.

I'll take Kovacic, Casemiro, Isco over Fernando, Delph and Yaya.

No. It's nice that he is now playing well but he spent two years not bothering to get fit or make much of an effort when on the pitch. It's time for him and Kolorov to be moved on.
I think this is overstated a bit. The whole team was nowhere near fit enough under the last bloke. We were the most unfit team in the league, not just Yaya, the lot of them. I don't think it was so much a lack of effort from Yaya, he was just unfit. But look at the size of Agüero's arse last season, de Bruyne's chubby body, our injury record, the way every team seemed to work harder and for longer than we did in every game we played.

Which is disappointing and quite frightening when you think how many players we've signed and the money we've spent... our squad is really lacking. It's unbalanced in the age of players, hardly anyone in their prime years and we don't have enough good passers of the ball which is bizarre considering we've courted Pep for ages and known he was coming to us [eventually].

The assembly of the squad we've got has been poorly planned IMO.

Too early for me to discuss whether or not Toure should get an extension. His innate ability compares favourably to anyone on that list but he picked against Aston Villa when he effectively tied up our last title. His form though since his return to the team has been improving and his last two games were only a few bulldozing runs short of his best. At this moment, he no back-up. How long he can sustain this form is the big unknown.

I would rather see Delph and Nando go before Toure on pure quality grounds but that ignores nationality issues. Another big issue we know is the age of the average age squad and that needs bringing down, which also works against Toure but wages are potentially the main hurdle. As a back-up player next season, we wuld be hard pressed to find someone with more, quality and experience but how much is that worth for a place on the bench?

Sure as 4th choice he'd be amazing. But we need to be realistic. He'll get a pay day somewhere that we won't give him and we need to focus on the future.

@FrancisMCFC - to describe the midfield players of Barcelona and Juventus as "garbage" is the definition of stupidity. I'm guessing you either don't watch a lot of football or alternatively don't watch any at all.

If he keeps himself in shape, keeps his agent quiet and keeps up a decent level of form I'd like to see him offered a 12 month extension on a reduced wage to reflect his changed status.

A one year deal isn't the worst idea, but no more. There is no way he will take a wage cut though, that would be an insult to one of the most important players in the club's history.
