Yaya Conundrum

How many times is the same debate/question asked?????

Even knobhead hansen last night pontificating about why he's played where he is.

Yaya, as already stated on numerous occasions, totally wears down opposing teams, he has this reserve in the later stage of matches which is simply unplayable at times. Starting there would be suicidal, he would be dead on his feet by half time, trust in Bob, he knows what he's doing!!!

I would love to see him play the full 90 behind the strikers, there is no doubting he is quality wherever he plays but further up he seems more influential. Garcia and Barry with Toure in front with a free role would be dynamic and still top defensively.

So if this doesn't work what is the next tactic? Moving him forward in the last part of the game works and Bob knows what he is doing.

He played in the advanced role in his first season. Every home game, at half time, there would be this group behind me blathering on "yaya's lazy not done a thing". By full time they would be singing his praises.

His attacking game develops as the game becomes stretched. It's pointless playing him in the advanced role in the first half. a complete waste of his ability

His biggest impact usually is in the 15min period after he's pushed forward. Opposition teams just don't adapt to it. Starting him in the advanced role would lose that impact

At home against the likes of Qpr, Southampton etc then I can see why yaya is used in midfield two but for away matches and tougher home games I would like to see a more balanced formation.

.....................................Hart............................

Zaba...................Komp....................Lescott......................Clichy

.........................Garcia....................Rodwell.........................

.....................................Yaya...........................................

Aguero.............................Tevez.................................Silva

I think we would get the best out of Silva with that and Yaya, it would also give Rodwell some more freedom to get forward whereas in 4-4-2/4-2-4 he just has to hold. Even a very poor stoke team began to dominate us in the midfield yesterday until Barry came on and we pushed Yaya up the pitch.

Last season we only had Barry and De jong to play behind Yaya which has zero creativity, Rodwell seems to be much more creative and Garcia looks to have a few goals in him so all the attacking play wont have to come from Yaya and therefore he wont get as tired.
This but swap Rodwell for Barry.

Good post mate, that's how I see it, it's almost like he feels his way into a game, assessing how opposition play and watching for spaces to exploit when/if Bobby needs to push him forward, he's a very clever player Yaya.

I really dont buy this 'he's only effective in the hole late in the game' line people are suddenly adopting. If a player is most effective somewhere it doesn't matter whether it's the 5th or 85th minute.

In the run in last season yaya was bailing us out by being moved there, but it's total nonsense to suggest he wouldn't have been so effective playing there early In the game. He took 3 months to learn how to play that role in his first season but then he was great.

He's not a tackler therefore he's wasted as a holding midfielder. I know we try to have him as this deep lying playmaker but it doesn't play to his strengths. A three man central midfield with him ahead of Barry and one other is really solid for games like real Madrid. Nasri has to be sacrificed. He can come in For the easier games where yaya playing deep is less of an issue.

I think he should start in goal, then just move further up the pitch as the game wore on. T opposition wouldnt be able to plan for that

People are forgetting Yaya's world class distribution from deeper positions. This season he has completed the most passes and made the most passes. Against Stoke he completed 99 passes which more passes than Stoke could master in their last 3 games.

Not many players are capable of replicating his distribution and passing from the back. Its a solid tactic by RM. Control the game from the start, score a goal, move Yaya forward and counter attack.

This but swap Rodwell for Barry. This is what I would use in the toughest Prem games. That is one seriously well balanced team.

-- Sun Sep 16, 2012 7:29 pm --
