Ridiculous decision if true.

I just don't see the point in wasting a squad place on someone who weakens the team. Technically he's great but physically he's a complete liability, if he's in the team you can't press as effectively which is fundamental to the way we want to play whether that's against good teams or shit teams who park the bus (e.g red scum).

Anyone got a picture of the entire current squad; who is foreign, who qualifies as homegrown, and who is exempt through age?

That whiteboard is what will tell the tale of who can stay, who might go and the problems therein considering we don't seem interested in any British/Homegrown players. Pep wants a bigger, stronger squad if we are in Europe. I also think he realizes the psychology of winning silverware, even the League Cup, so wants to seriously compete in everything. To do that, we need to strengthen, but to accomplish that with top class players, it all boils down to who qualifies for what squad position, and where Pep feels he has to spend for quality.

I think Caballero might be sacrificed for a foreign slot, because having two foreign keepers is mental. But than again, he might get the young keeper from Benfica and completely nullify that opportunity, unless he also gets rid of Bravo! The permutations only grow from there...

Maybe to ensure severance pay is not needed? However he has been the best player in recent games.

He's still a class player of course, but I hope this doesn't make them think that we're set in CM, because he's 34 next week and probably the main reason why he's had a decent season is that he had the first half of it off. Frank Lampard, amongst others, showed that a genuinely world class player can still contribute into their mid-30s, but it really can't be as our first choice (Frank definitely faded in the second half of his year with us). And it's more of an issue if he's preventing us from bringing in overseas players.

Its time to move on with a younger, fitter and hungry midfield.

Less of a surprise than the Navas story.

He has the big game mentality, passing range and composure on the ball that few others in the squad can offer.

If true, be interesting to see whether he takes it up. Would have thought he could get a better deal elsewhere with the skills he still possesses.

I really can't see any other club in Europe paying that kind of salary he would want, perhaps China but even they are starting to restrict fees and salaries.

I believe he has earned another year and if selected correctly it will be worth it to the club and team, although I understand some wanting him replaced with a younger player but where do you find a young Yaya?
Many thought Pogba was the one :-)

I can understand extending Navas because of his versatility. I cannot understand extending Toure.

Your kidding right.
In what way has Navas been better than Toure for you to understand him getting offered a new deal.
He is versatile in crap crossing, shooting and passing.
Toure is better at any footballing skill than Navas.

Obviously Toure is the more skilled player but I'd rather have Navas at back up RB and we will need one of those. I hope both stay but only on 1-year deals as back-ups.
