No, quite the opposite. As I said in an earlier post, it should be about getting the best out of our players and playing to our (their) strengths. If Yaya is not so great in a defensive role especially in 4-4-2 away from home, then why don't we recognise that and stop asking him to do it. Push him forward, play 4-5-1 and get someone else to do the defensive work. Surely???

Yaya is utterly brilliant at what he does best and having him marauding around the penalty area, our opponents would be drawn to him like bees around honey, leaving gaps all over the place for Kun/Beast/Dzeko. Not to mention his free kicks, killer passes or storming runs into the box. Just keep him high up the pitch and leave Fern/Rodwell or Fern/Garcia to do the cleaning up. It's not rocket science.

For umpteen games under Mancini we started with Yaya playing deep and then made changes, taking off a striker, pushing Yaya forward and bringing on a DM. As far as I can remember, this ALWAYS made us play better. Like it did against Swansea on Wednesday, btw.

There was some debate about this a year or two back and someone (Didsbury Dave perhaps, I can't recall) made the comment that Yaya is at his most destructive best when breaking from deep. I can see that. But if that comes at the expense of defensive holes and leaked goals, I'd rather we just "settled" for him playing in the hole and ripping opponents to bits from there.

Yaya again proving his worth to this team !! I'd rather look at all the amazing things he already does than criticise him for things about his game he cannot change. We have a treasure in him and we shouldn't forget that

Yaya is no Phil Jones.

I cry every night

Yaya was class again last night, good to have him for a full season this time around! Lots of people refer to the games in the run in of the title season, Newcastle away in particular, where he was pushed forward late on at the expense of a striker and De Jong came on. He was destructive but starting him in that position would not be his best role. I think he has to play deep to get on the ball and move forward, he is good in possession can pass accurately and then bursts forward running off of people. I think we would lose a lot of pace and dynamism in the middle with him pushed forward even if it did sure up the defence. Keeping the ball, passing and moving is the best way to defend anyway. The way we play defensively now is that if there is a gap in central midfield one of the centre backs will press forward and try to intercept. This does leave us open for the ball in behind but ideally we will still have a covering centre back and goalkeeper dealing with that, sensibly. It is the way that the top teams play these days, a method Guardiola implements and is a reason Pellegrini favours a centre back that is comfortable with the ball at feet. Having Yaya in the middle allows us to play another attacking player in behind the central striker and it has paid off quite incredibly so far this season.

It's remarkable how he has turned out to be a completely different player to the one we thought we had signed. I do remember when we signed him the media was somewhat underwhelmed. He came with a reputation as a solid defensive midfielder but in fact he has turned out to be a dynamic attacking midfielder. He has scored twice as many goals this season for us than he did in full three seasons for Barca (in his last season for them he only scored 1 in 37 games). We must as a club take some credit for this transformation.

Not really, IMO...He always had this quality to his game, on occasion he was given license to roam forward like that but playing behind Xavi, Iniesta & Messi meant he never got to show it often enough...Busquets has similar issues now eventhough I can see him being the heir to Xavi in the future

I've decided to just accept his lapses and just enjoy the show - The man is a beast and I intend to savour every burst through the opposing midfield/defence he does because it's a fucking sight to behold!

THE most important signing of the ADUG regime.

Can't agree more, such a clever player, he sees passes that no one does and reads the game perfectly, add to that his enormous strength,
