I'm sure I read on here not long ago that Yorkshire Bank / Virgin Money were in trouble and I bank with them.

Today I've had a random email from Virgin Money saying they are covered by the FSCS for savings up to £85k. All well and good, but does anybody know if money in our current account is also protected?

Yes it covers that according to this ...

https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/pru...ations/financial-services-compensation-scheme

Specifically this portion ...

"Deposits held in banks, building societies and credit unions (including in Northern Ireland) that are authorised by the PRA are protected up to £85,000. This includes, for example, eligible deposits in current accounts, savings accounts, cash ISAs (held with a deposit taker) or savings bonds."

You are covered for all accounts up to £85000. But beware if you have above that in two linked banks eg Halifax and Bank of Scotland as the limit applies to all accounts in the banking group
