I'm getting there but without seeing it it's hard to say. If the penalty taker is ahead of the person taking the shot then he's offside....Where's @richardtheref when you need him.
I think?

Every PiGMOL ref has a different take on this. We have to wait for Howie Redshirt to apologise for the balls up by giving offside or not giving offside.I'm getting there but without seeing it it's hard to say. If the penalty taker is ahead of the person taking the shot then he's offside....

Plsyer A plays a ball to player B who is miles offside. Players B even shepherd's the ball so that player C can smash the ball past Ederson.
The goal is given.
I can't get my head how Player B wasn't flagged offside.
Am I missing something??
I have bold/italics the issues, albeit reasonable thoughts.Well, the penalty taker A will most likely be ahead of Player B as he shoots, the goalkeeper only parries the ball so A is offside unless , as there are no defenders in the area, Player B has managed to get ahead of Player A before taking his shot (and player B would need to have been outside the penalty area and behind the ball when the penalty was taken). So it highly likely that the penalty taker, A, would be offside.
Without an image, this is totally hypothetical.I have bold/italics the issues, albeit reasonable thoughts.
The definitive answer is, unfortunately a question given the circumstances… “where was A when B (who was clearly ONSIDE) played the ball?”
IF A was:
1) Behind the ball when played by B, or
2) Had a second defender ahead of her when the ball was played by B
then she is ONSIDE and the goal should count.
Oooo, now you’ve thrown a wrench in the works!!Without an image, this is totally hypothetical.
Can I add that there were 27 beach balls on the pitch and one of the defenders had Mr Tickles’ legs.
AVAR: When did the defender say “Go, go gadget legs?”Oooo, now you’ve thrown a wrench in the works!!
:-)
I thought I had covered the fact that we don’t have a picture in my choices, which cover the ways they can be on or offside.
Of course, if Howard the Red or a team in red is involved, ignore all previous.
What I am not sure about is whether a player from either of the sides could be positioned ahead of the penalty taker but outside the penalty area when the penalty was taken. (Eg standing by the corner flag). If such a player were player B then he/she would be offside when the ball came back off the post, but if such a player were a defender then both A and B could be onside.I have bold/italics the issues, albeit reasonable thoughts.

A player CAN, but would be foolish to do so becauseWhat I am not sure about is whether a player from either of the sides could be positioned ahead of the penalty taker but outside the penalty area when the penalty was taken. No, The laws specifically state that all players other than the taker and the goalkeeper must be:A player CAN, but would be foolish to do so because
A) if they were on the attacking team, they’d either be offside immediately if the ball was saved (old rules) or if they tried to play it (new rules).
B) Playing everyone onside if they were from the defending team.
I stand corrected on my response to the “corner flag” comment.No, The laws specifically state that all players other than the taker and the goalkeeper must be:
* At least 10 yards from the penalty mark
* BEHIND THE PENALTY MARK
* Inside the field of play
* Outside the penalty area
