Bruce: disappointed with the referee
Wigan manager Steve Bruce has bemoaned some key refereeing decisions after watching his side go down 1-0 to Manchester City.
Several cries for a penalty were heard when Elano appeared to control the ball close to his hands in the box, before Lee Cattermole went down in the penalty area to no avail late on.
The decisions were by no means clear cut, but Bruce himself felt that the Cattermole incident should have definitely been rewarded with a spot-kick for his side.
"It's a penalty. He's kicked him right along the shins and there's one or two handball incidents where I'm looking thinking that could be given a penalty as well," he said.
"But every decision after that, it was as if the referee was just evening it up because he'd sent somebody off.
"If he's had the courage to go and send somebody off then he has to keep blowing for what he sees and I just think he was influenced by the whole stadium and their bench."
Chances spurned
Wigan had been on a four-game winning streak, but consecutive 1-0 defeats have since brought an abrupt end to their dream run.
"We've come away with nothing, but I suppose that is the Premier League for you," added Bruce.
"We missed an outstanding chance with Zaki to level it up, but it wasn't our day.
"Like the other night we've played very, very well and thrown everything at them, but couldn't quite break through.
The elephant man should have gone to Specsavers !!!!
