Bruce: disappointed with the referee

Wigan manager Steve Bruce has bemoaned some key refereeing decisions after watching his side go down 1-0 to Manchester City.

Several cries for a penalty were heard when Elano appeared to control the ball close to his hands in the box, before Lee Cattermole went down in the penalty area to no avail late on.

The decisions were by no means clear cut, but Bruce himself felt that the Cattermole incident should have definitely been rewarded with a spot-kick for his side.

"It's a penalty. He's kicked him right along the shins and there's one or two handball incidents where I'm looking thinking that could be given a penalty as well," he said.

"But every decision after that, it was as if the referee was just evening it up because he'd sent somebody off.

"If he's had the courage to go and send somebody off then he has to keep blowing for what he sees and I just think he was influenced by the whole stadium and their bench."

Chances spurned
Wigan had been on a four-game winning streak, but consecutive 1-0 defeats have since brought an abrupt end to their dream run.

"We've come away with nothing, but I suppose that is the Premier League for you," added Bruce.

"We missed an outstanding chance with Zaki to level it up, but it wasn't our day.

"Like the other night we've played very, very well and thrown everything at them, but couldn't quite break through.

The elephant man should have gone to Specsavers !!!!

If you look on the bbc website it shows a 3 minutue interview with him and he looks well pissed off.. PMSL

Makes up for that shocking penalty decision they got at the JJB this season against us!!!!!!!!!!!!

correct and the one the ref missed at the other end at the JJB - obviously he still thinks he is at the Swamp, a place where you regularly get all the decisions!

I thought they should have had two pens, we maybe should have had one.

But aside from that the ref gave them absolutely everything.

Watch this interview its unfucking believable.

Wigan were hard done by because we went down to 10 men, fuck me we should get Dunne to get sent of every week if that's the case .

I agree.

If it had been a dirty game, he would have been lost.
He was sh*te for both teams.

Just that today we played well enough to get a win.

My friends, these seem to be very sensible views, although I was naturally affronted by his 'bias' during the match. What I was wondering was, when Kirkland blocked SWP, although there were, I think, 2-3 defenders in front of him, he could have had a shot at the open goal as Elano eventually did? And if so, was that not a goal-scoring opportunity worthy of a red card?

Did he have that sack over his head ?

Believe it or not that's actually his face

Very Good.

He tros out the 'Little ol' Wigan' routine after every defeat. Yes it was a fould on Caterfoul. However he should have been in the stands along with Zaki for his elbow on Dunne (no excuse).

I hope Bruce's head gets so big that one day it swallows itself.

how sad to see a grown man so out of touch with reality. not much of a surprise with his scum pedigree.

Is this a trait amongst managers from the Scum, then?

Well, lets hope not, but based on the evidence at hand of Bruce and Keane, it might not be that far from the truth. Hopefully Sparky will be out of touch with "that" reality.
