"You silly old moo". Till Death Us Do Part being shown again.

Perrin was absolutely brilliant.

Up until that third (?) series set in some sort of commune. That was shite, and such a letdown after the previous series. Jimmy (Reggie's brother in law) was a brilliant character. Always around on the cadge for food. "Bit of a cock up on the catering front". And Reggie turning the pic of the Queen back to front when he was trying to bed Joan.
Half past parsnips.

[Jimmy is explaining to Reggie what kinds of people his secret army will be against]

Jimmy Anderson:
Wreckers of law and order. Communists, Maoists, Trotskyists, neo-Trotskyists, crypto-Trotskyists, union leaders, Communist union leaders, atheists, agnostics, long-haired weirdos, short-haired weirdos, vandals, hooligans, football supporters, namby-pamby probation officers, rapists, papists, papist rapists, foreign surgeons - headshrinkers, who ought to be locked up, Wedgwood Benn, keg bitter, punk rock, glue-sniffers, "Play For Today", Clive Jenkins, Roy Jenkins, Up Jenkins, up everybody's, Chinese restaurants - why do you think Windsor Castle is ringed with Chinese restaurants?

Reginald Perrin:
You realise the sort of people you're going to attract, don't you, Jimmy? Thugs, bully-boys, psychopaths, sacked policemen, security guards, sacked security guards, racialists, Paki-bashers, queer-bashers, Chink-bashers, anybody-bashers, rear Admirals, queer admirals, Vice Admirals, fascists, neo-fascists, crypto-fascists, loyalists, neo-loyalists, crypto-loyalists.

Jimmy Anderson:
Do you think so? I thought support might be difficult.

They did a film version set during the second world war, very funny, never understood the outrage of Alf Garnett, the jokes were about him and his views,

Tony Blair's father in law as the "scouse git" in "Til Death..."

And remember the black home help? Alf was not a happy bunny. It was hilarious, and brilliantly scripted, showing Alf up as the bigoted fool he was. There's no way you could make it these days, though. Society's attitudes to that type of humour has totally changed.
Winston “Marigold” the camp black guy teased Alf relentlessly and Alf sort of got to like him In a love/hate way.
That character was in the sequel series “In Sickness and In Health”.

My Dad (lifelong Socialist) never allowed us to watch this TV show back in the day.
Seen a few episodes subsequently.
You were absolutely right Dad. Thanks.

Marigold ?

Both TDUDP and Love Thy Neighbour mocked racist attitudes. But the racists didn't realise. Warren Mitchell & Dandy Nichols were outstanding.
It wasn't rocket science to work that out at the time, much less so now. Unfortunately it fell on the deaf ears it was supposed to enlighten as opposed to enabling all the racists who took it as literally as they wished to see it.
