I wouldn’t classify Silence of the Lambs, American Psycho and Se7en as horror films.

I’d go for:

Halloween
The Thing (by John Carpenter)
Scream
Black Christmas
The Shining
Alien

Honourable mentions to NOES 3, Scream 2, Psycho, Event Horizon and The People Under the Stairs.

Fair enough. Using your criteria, The Shining wouldn’t be one either though.

Don’t get me wrong, they’re all excellent films but I see them more as thrillers with elements of horror.

In fact, I’d say American Psycho is a black comedy. I really must re-watch (and re-read) it. Great book and film. Christian Bale is excellent.

Watched Event Horizon when i was about 10 and it still petrifies me to this day, I can't bring myself to watch it again even though I bet it looks proper shit now.

I own over a 1000 horror movies so such a hard list for me to do. A film like The New York Ripper that probably wouldn't make my top 50 but i absolutely love it. the killer quacks like duck ffs.

Love Halloween 3. Its like a companion piece to The Fog. Great John Carpenter score too.
