Forrest Gump.

There aren't many films that achieve what this one does (although it was a book first of course).

For what is essentially the life story of a guy with a low IQ who only had the support of a single Mum and a great friend (suffering from abuse at home) it is a masterpiece in my opinion.

It just has it all. All the joys and horrors that life can throw at people, combined with a hugely exaggerated plot that manages to combine the darkest moments with utter ridiculousness and all balanced with an exceptional soundtrack.
