Your dream Job

Worked for William Hill Bookmakers from the early 80's for 10 years. About a month a year I was seconded to the "race room" on Wellington Street Stockport. It's where big bets were authorised, large winnings checked, prices altered, commentaries rebroadcast, and credit bets processed along with a few other things. Pre internet, no settling machines, everything done manually, very exciting hearing of large wagers, winnings, used to absolutely love going to work. They closed it mid 80's and moved to Leeds, gutted. Some great characters worked there. Btw, the wages were shit!!
You would probably have known my old man then!

Hmm...

Hardly scraping a living. And probably far less susceptible to Polish archaeologists coming over and doing the job for half the price.

That salary table is also a little off, I know multiple archaeologists who earn far in excess of that. Plus people with PG qualifications and several years dig experience are usually sought after by universities as lecturers.
