Your finest Sporting hour?

1983 playing for Roach Dynamoes U12s we went to play in a tournament in Valkenberg Holland. Supported by a coach load of piss pots from a pub team in Middleton who had travelled on same ferry we managed to get to final we're we faced PSV Eindhoven juniors, a year older and twice the size. Managed to take them to penalties but in true English style we lost. As we bawled our eyes out the blokes from Mid who had been singing their hearts out all match invaded the pitch and carried us all on their shoulders for a lap of honour. Brilliant memories!

I "megged" an England schoolboy international playing for my school against his. We beat them 4-3 and my teacher said i was magnificent.

I carried my bat for 25 not out in a routing of my school cricket team. All out for 60ish.

Finished a dart game against a former Welsh international Bull, double 16 for an 82 checkout.

Got a draw against an international Master in a chess game

Came 3rd in the who could do the highest piss up the gym wall contest

My brother and I along with our mates won the supporters club 5,a side tournament at Platt Lane, representing Ashton we defeated Leicester and Rugby in the final.
I've just been informed the lad that played in goal died of a heart attack last week aged 46,we were in the Pink and the Ashton Reporter in 1980.
I played rugby league for Oldham colts, and have played a few games out here in Oz,I turned out for a mates team in an Aboriginal knock out tournament,I stood out like dogs balls, blonde hair and a manc accent, needless to say I was knocked about a bit.

Playing for my school team we played another school that had beaten us 8-0 a few weeks before. We scored an absolute fluke direct from a corner after 2 minutes and then got absolutely battered for the rest of the game but somehow won 1-0. My memory may be playing tricks on me but I seem to remember that we didnt get out of our own half for the rest of the match. I was playing as a central defender and had the game of my life actually clearing the ball off the line 3 times and stopping the lad who had scored 4 against us a few weeks before!

I beat my girlfriend at Tennis on holiday in Cyprus... Went a set down 4-6 only to come back miraculously with a 6-1 and 6-2.

This is what sport is all about.

1987, Torkington Park, the Stockport under-10s final. Norbury Moor Rangers trail arch rivals Mountfield Rovers 2-0 with ten minutes remaining. I came off the bench (inexplicably I was a substitute that day - I like to think it was because I was battling heroically after an injury, but the reality is that the manager's son played in the same position as me) and my brief cameo saw me get 3 assists to clinch an improbable 4-2 victory and pick up the man of the match award. Tragically, I've still got the press cutting from the Stockport Times somewhere.

Playing hockey on the Manchester Commonwealth Games pitch and getting a goal.

Also, being treated by St James' Park medical staff after tearing my quad during a charity game there.

Two five a side tournaments at Centerparcs in 1999. Only time me, two brothers and our Dad who was 60 played footy in the same team. Our keeper in first one was ex brother in law who actually played cricket for England. In first tournament we played 5 games without letting a single goal in, mind you we never scored one either! In the second one our keeper couldn't play so we recruited a lad wearing a City shirt (obviously as happy about Wembley as I was at the time) and youngest brother went in goal. Second tournament, another 5 games and still no goal conceded and this time I got one.

So after 10 games, 2 hours of play we won 1, drew 9, scored 1 and let in nil. A more solid beautifully organised team of stadium emptiers you couldn't wish to play, but I played in a team with my Dad so I was happy.

Almost forgot, playing on Maine Road in one of the last games played there in 2003 in a Soccer Aid game. Home kit, home changing room, name on kit. Magic.

Tool part in a channel relay swim, when I was 16. Was lucky enough to be the 2nd swimmer in the water, that had the honour some 12hrs and 3 mins later the one who walked from the water on to the beach in France.

Swam many lakes but swam length of Windermere when I was 13, one of the youngest ever to do the 10 and half mile swim..

In some ways thou my biggest sporting achievement was finishing the Manchester Marathon last year.. Never or still don't class myself as a runner.. Some few months before realised at just short of 19st that was way to heavy.. Started running and never done any running before.. Couldn't run 5k without stopping.. About a year later did 26.2mils in 4hrs 14 mins. Loved every min of it and can't wait to do another

You must have been that bloke walking past who saw us play and just shouted ONE OF YOU LOT JUST BLOODY SHOOT!

Vice capt of the house rugby team at school for 4 years and came runners up in the inter-house rugby tournament 4 years in a row. Made capt for the final year and we won. It was the only year the school didn't do a presentation in assembly and I have always felt cheated that I never got the chance to go and pick up the plaque and sneer at my arch enemy who was capt of the house(and school rugby team) that had won for the previous 4 years.
It still pisses me off now.

Hole in one on Heaton Park P N P (2nd)k hit it and it skuttled along from 30 yards into the hole.

Going round a course in Denmark and chipping in from 40 yards x 2, 30 yards and 20 yards in a single round. It was one of those days, normally I'm over tge moon to hit half a dozen reasonable shots in a round.

Scoring the only goal for my Primary school team with a volley from outside the area (my only ever goal and there only defeat that season).

Led a sheltered life.

Going back to Uni as part of an Old Boys footy team earlier this year. We really were not up to much when we were studying, so playing against younger, fitter and generally better players after 18 months of not playing was not a welcome prospect - particularly as the keeper. Think they got a little intimidated by the wisdom exuding from our mere presence on the pitch, because we ended up getting a 3-3 draw.

We were quite happy to shake hands there and then, but they wanted the win so enforced penalties. We're 3-2 down and it's their fifth penalty, and I pull off the best save I've ever made to tip their skipper's effort onto the inside of the post. Of course, I'm then buzzing with adrenalin, so take our next one, which I score (but very nearly miss), and then save their next too to win us the game in sudden death. Got a little over-excited and did a Weaver impression, made it to the half way before I was caught.

I have two.

Playing for the Gas Social in the Warrington Sunday League we beat Winwick Hospital 9 - 0 and I scored my only ever Hat Trick.

The other; playing for the same side we played the Works team from Fiddlers Ferry; the Power Station and lost 3 -1.

The point being that they scored 2 in the last couple of minutes and even though they were much higher in the League that year than we were and they were the Cup holders we had played the whole game with only 8 men.

In the changing rooms after the Match we could hear their mouthy, scouse,Mickey Manager/Coach saying that he wished he could have 8 Lads like that.

Did anyone ever play football in the umbro tournament in sale? Been going for years was a good tourney teams all over the world came to play in it. It was a 4 day event, dunno if its still going now though
