Your Three

Pedro has nothing on Jose Rodriquez, which I would bully Real Madrid for in a heartbeat. Mark my words, he, Oliver Torres, and Denis Saurez will be greats.

You mean Jese Rodriguez right? I've watched him alot and he looks a great player but Pedro is still very young a proven which is key if he were to be part of a team trying to win all fronts. I prefer Lamela, Ocampos and Moura to Jese.

I do mean Jesé Rodriguez (iPhone autocorrect strikes again; I'll be more careful from now on) and I understand your perspective, but my focus lies in creating a base for our team for the future, which will help us avoid paying 20-30 million (or more) for every player in our squad. Jesé will be a star (as will Oliver Torres) and I'd like to have them before they fetch Pedro like fees. We need to start blooding youth during our less-competitive campaigns otherwise our financial model will be in shambles.

All that said, I actually think Jesé Rodriguez is just as good as Pedro, and about five years younger (but I am not a Pedro fan and was actually not particularly impressed with his Euro display).

There are many problems with buying young players. There are two main reasons why I prefer other player to him.

1) A huge number flop and never fulfill their potential. Especially with him being at club like Madrid, they would want 5 million for him. He, along with Varane and Joselu, are Madrid's best prospects. They wouldn't let go of him easily.

2) He isn't on Pedro's level. I've watched him play and yes he looks a great player and very skillful but Pedro has proven himself in technically the best league in the world. Jese is very young and he could be better than Pedro in the future but at the moment he has a long, long way to go. I think you are mistaking potential for current ability. It has happened in the past with players like Assulin who was labeled 'The new Messi' and appeared as Barcelona's best talent but he didn't fulfill his potential.

Jese needs time to improve. I don't even think he is Madrid's best talent. Varane is a fantastic player and I believe has more potential than Jese does. However he may well turn out to be a great player but this is just my opinion.

Varane was a top buy last summer from Lens, a risk but a top buy. Madrid aren't shy to giving up academy products either, and Mourinho certainly isn't famous for bringing players through from the youth sides

1) You are referring to a principle of applied/realized potential that can (and should be) applied to purchases of older players. Many older players do not fulfil their potential at a new club. As much as I know why you included this, it is not an argument against mine. It is in tandem with your and my argument.

2) This seems to be an extension of your first point, so I refer to my previous response. Also, I am not mistaking potential for current skill; I really do not rate Pedro. Having spent quite a lot of time in Spain observing teams at every level I have developed the view that a particularly technical playing system (think Spain in comparison with England) has a strong tendency to elevate technical, but not especially gifted players. This occurs at every level--I am technical but not especially gifted in my community league team but am made to look very good based on our style. Barça carries two to three players at the moment, one of them being Pedro (the other, in my mind, being Basquest, but as I get into arguments with my mates about this I will let it go here).

I think our main point of difference that cannot be reconciled is that you think Pedro is a top level player and I very much do not. I believe he would be found out fairly badly against decent defenders on a regular basis (rewatch the Euro final and let me know if Pedro looks exceptional when he comes on, even against a flailing side) which does not occur in La Liga.

And that's alright, we can disagree. What I am sure we can both agree on is that Silva needs to mentor Denis Saurez as much as possible so we have a successor; that will save untold millions.

I agree, they are not. And Perez' (edit: autocorrect) current system seems to favour the sale of high-potential youth to support the servicing of debts incurred by purchasing so-called "finished" talent.

If City had unlimited money

I thought we did?

Well the oil stops somewhere. Unless they secretly sell parts of Old Trafford, getting money, which United have to rebuy, putting them in more debt. Good plan. I'll be contributing by painting the statue blue.

I thought we'd established Bale can't defend?

Excluding Messi, Ronaldo, Xavi & Iniesta then I would have Hummels, Neymar & Oxlade-Chamberlain
I like those 3, maybe Thiago Silva instead of Hummels

he doesn't need to, that team would score 6 every match
