TOP 6

Escape to Victory
Saving Private Ryan
Great Escape
Kelly Heroes
Where Eagles Dare
1917

Also to add to this list would be films such as the following.

Inglorious bastards
Dam Busters
Bridge too Far
When We were soldiers
Braveheart
Hacksaw Ridge
Dunkirk
Zulu
Lone Survivor
The Patriot
Midway
Battle of Britain

Come and See
The Ascent (a wonderful companion piece to Come and See that was directed by Larisa Shepitkov - Klimov’s partner)
The Sun (about Hirohito)
Battle for Algiers
Ivan’s Childhood
Apocalypse Now

The nine hour long Human Condition Trilogy (about the occupation of Manchuria told from the perspective of Masaki Kobayashi, a director who loathed Japanese militarism), and Fires on the Plain (an adaptation of Shohei Ooka’s stunning, Ballardian novel), are also movies that I would recommend to those who like this genre of films.

The Cruel Sea was accused of being a rip off "In Which We Serve", which is very unfair.

I know its daft, but I can't watch the scene where those two Delta take on the licals without bursting into tears. I was still in the army when they showed the news footage of them carrying their bodies out like lions killed in a hunt. I think that operation was the last time the Yanks trusted India armed forces with anything.
Pakistani Army.
