Been rumoured bout for a while, it seems that Google are bringing in a subscription fee for youtube;

Speculation about the fee being "less than" £10 a month for the 'no ads' service. You will still be able to use youtube for free (I think!), but there will be ads (just like it is now; "you can skip this ad in 5 seconds"). Fucked if I'm shelling out the thick end of a tenner just to avoid a few ads for the odd time I visit.
