North Stand Expansion

A few overlaps. Decided to post all the pictures instead of sifting through them. That's one hell of piling rig.

Noticed a camera on top of the spiral overlooking the NS construction site. Probably for internal viewing only. It might be a live webcam? I haven't come across any NS construction live webcams on the internet yet, similar to the Coop Live Arena live webcam.

Between the NSL2 proposal and the Curva South?

Both ends look pretty similar. Albeit they look different depth wise. The NSL2 proposal looks deeper. L1 on both stands look pretty similar.

As I’ve already posted, before the plans were made public by the club all the talk on here and elsewhere was about a proper home end, safe standing, and a singing section, which to be fair was pure speculation at the time, and which was never commented on by the club. I’ll admit that. But the club did intimate they were listening to the fans, and the club would take the fans views and opinions into consideration regarding the NS redevelopment. It’s fair to say that isn’t it, especially as the club asked the fans for their views and opinions via emails and roadshows at the ground and elsewhere.

I was hoping the front of NSL2 would be where the singers would be located, another official singing section, so the singers and singing could be more audible and could be heard more all over the ground, including the away end opposite, and would spread to NSL1 directly below, and across the ground to the other stands. I also wanted that location for banners and flags hanging from the front of NSL2, just like they used to do, and for the telescopic flags that are waved in SSL1, as they would be more visible around the ground. (the telescopic flags aren’t going to be waved or seen at the back of NSL1) What I pictured was something similar to the front of AC Milan’s Curva South. In hindsight it was naivety. In reality I just wanted the best for Pep, the team and the fans. That’s what I thought at the time. :-) And I still do, even though it won’t happen. :-(

Surely you want the singers at the back of the stand where they will make the most noise ?

On the season ticket waiting list for the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola’s side have a staggering 120,000 supporters waiting on the sidelines for the invitation to purchase access to every single home game.

As quoted by ‘The Political Economy of Football V2’, City Group’s Chief Operating Officer Roel De Vries has stated that Manchester City need to increase revenue generated through their home stadium “if we want to stay competitive in the world of football and be in the top group when it comes to performance”.

De Vries, formerly of Nissan Motor Corporation, continued, “We cannot easily expand the (Etihad) stadium beyond 60,000. So then we have to figure out, ‘How can we squeeze a lot more out of the stadium?’”

Was always going to be a challenging job.

It’s totally possible but would it mean both sides need doing at the same time to get rid of the masts and cable net - which would mean no roof on the sides for a year? Doesn’t sound likely to happen unless there’s another work around.

Could we even be looking at a new stadium in 20 years instead?

I don't think they'd be looking at a new ground in that timescale, but possibly in the future. The fact they've added in the hotel and wider proposals at this stage means they're confident it will deliver what it needs to in the medium term. With the SS expansion application they did have some very basic high level feasibility drawings to show expanded side stands, but I don't know how much work had been put into that - it was suggested it had been holistically reviewed in terms of the corners of the ground being incorporated into works on the side stands.

Whilst it might not be easy to expand the sides, it's not impossible and I'm sure if the club deem it necessary they'll do it. That's for another day!

Worked great the few. It would be better for the club reward the loyalty of fans who have earnt the right to be given the privilege based on attendance. It feels like the club are marginising the so called legacy fans and in my books that goes against the grain. The 10% to younger fans is wrong. Fans should earn the right to these privileges. It all needs a little more thinking about with engagement with the supporter branches. Decisions are being made by people with no (or little) connection with the club, focusing on ticking boxes and prioritising growth over the thoughts of feelings of the supporters. More than ever we should be together, but the leadership are divided the club into groups and sub groups.

BLUEMOOM is divided into sub groups the main one being the legacy blue moaners.

Surely you want the singers at the back of the stand where they will make the most noise ?

That's my take. I don't think having the singers at the front just to stick some flags and banners up is a priority. That helps visually but you can get those going in the stand and it be visually intimidating still. It's 5 rows for GA+ so visually you'll barely notice it amongst the rest of the stand. You want your singers at the back, under the roof with the walls surrounding them and the noise will then head down the stand, towards the pitch and around the ground and will get the rest singing.
