Jim, when the Berlin Wall came down, NATO signed up to an agreement to "not take a further step east".
This meant The Soviet Union, as it still was at that moment in time, didn't want any NATO encroachment onto it's territory.
There were no issues with Russia for many years other than posturing by both sides.
The situation in the Ukraine has been provoked by American machinations.
If the late John Pilger had this figured out before he passed away, then that's good enough for me, coming from an indisputably honest and decent man.
American's are force fed the notion that Socialism is dangerous from a very early age. They are nothing less than brainwashed. But, what have they got to fear in their isolation geographically ? Ask yourself that. Why the big concern for the European's well being ?

Can you link the article about NATO saying "not to take a further step east"? People need to realize that NATO is not an imperialist organization, it's just merely a defensive treaty between nations to protect themselves from the Russian threat. NATO does not force any nations to join and there's an incredibly rigid process to join it.

Countries in the former Eastern Bloc such as Poland, Czechia, Hungary, Estonia, Lithuania, etc all joined NATO willingly after being illegally occupied by the Soviets for much of the century. Now all of those nations are much more successful economically and have higher living standards than anywhere in Russia.

Hasn’t Illinois got its usual corrupt governor to put things right? They must be slipping.

This Governor is one of the better ones we’ve had over the years. Also, as a Pritzker, (Hyatt Hotel fortune, amongst other things!) he has enough money and influence to not need to sell Senate seats or skim for patronage!

However, he’s not above using the rules to the extreme. He avoided a rather massive property tax bill on a large mansion by removing all the toilets, which made it uninhabitable, and thus lowered the property taxes to land value only!! Sneaky, but legal…if you’ve got a spare mansion you’re not using but don’t want to pay taxes on it!
