millwall game at maine road that brought the banning of fans

I remember the Millwall game. We usually used to sit near the away fans or in the main stand just as it joined the north stand (behind the concrete post), but for the "High risk" games we moved over to Platt Lane. After all, I would only have been about 9 or 10 years old at that time so it wasn't the best place to be

All through the match you could just see seats flying through the north stand.

I remember correctly, one of the lads from the supporters club we used to go to the game with got bottled on the way out of the ground.

It was millwall/reading/chelsea and even a few rangers that day

Wonder if well be allowed to take away fans if we ever play them again? They let Leeds go there so im sure theyd let us now

Leeds only got 1,000 tickets and they were stictly vetted before issuing, hence the ground looking empty!

Should be interesting at "H"Elland Road tomorrow, when its much more difficult to stop away fans traveling.....

I remember going to the old Den and their inbred but huge fans spent the entire game loking at us, never once breaking face contact - quite unnerving the whole experience! The polive presence outside was incredible, a line of around 50 deep across the whole road!!

Millwall brought a huge firm and got off the train at Stockport.

they had a scuffle with some Reds at Stockport station.

When they arrived in Mcr they were heavily escorted to the ground.

In the ground they threw seats and got them thrown back.

A massive City firm gathered outside after and had scuffles with the police, who succeeded in pushing them all the way back to Wilmslow Road. Millwall were kept in the grounmd then escored back down Lloyd Street.

City's lads made their way to town and smashed up some of the shops in Rusholme.

Attempts were made by both sides to meet but it never happened.

City later had a battle with United when they got back from Forest.

That's basically it.
I was sat right next to Millwall at the back of the North Stand. As soon as they got in the ground they took up the netting that provided a few seats empty segregation between the two sets of fans, and the stewards were powerless to stop them.

There was no City firm in the North Stand as it was all City season-ticket holders sat in their usual seats.

After Terry Cooke's goal, Millwall started throwing coins and seats, and at that point the Riot Police waded in. Very little fighting, between fans in the ground, just a very bad atmosphere.

No idea what happened in Rusholme after.

I used to know Millwall quite well, there is a fair few Chelsea from Bermondsey for some strange reason and quite a few of them travelled up with 'wall.

millwall fans traveling to leeds apparently have to travel in the clubs own coaches, where they will receive their match tickets from police near leeds.that is the only option they have of getting to the game, plus they have to produce photographic id to the police as well in order to get the match tickets.

I remember those days too USA. they had the firm that wore the surgical mask, 'the treatment' i think they called themselves. Even the family stand was more interested in unnerving us than looking at the game.

But they never unnerved me..................... i was too busy sh*tting myself to be unnerved! Never went to the old den again after that.

The hatred all stems from the time in the late 80's when City's mainline took liberites with Millwalls F-Troop on London Bridge. It was "Allegedly" the first time they had been done good and proper on their own turf. A couple of Millwall were seriously injured and they have been seeking revenge ever since. Countless books talk abou this event and i think the original game was a night match.

A couple of links for those that are interested. Some of you may also remember the nightmare away trip too, listed in the first link.
