Aren't the Sony Experia XA and the Samsung J3 about £100 apart if buying outright? I'd have a look at the Moto G4 if having the latest and next OS is important.

The G4 is a very good phone for the price. Feels closer to a top of the range phone than the lower end.

I've got a Samsung S6 and it's been fantastic. I had a HTCM7 before that and it shits all over the HTC.

Given the 2 phones quoted I'm guessing an S6 is outside of his budget.
