Dias and Walker were never going to win the ball.

As soon as Ederson saw that big lad near the six-yard box, he should have been ready to come out to punch clear.

Barkley should have been tackled by one of the players he dribbled past. We were then thin for players and exposed.

Even if Ederson had challenged their giant of a forward, he’d still not have got the ball. The header was from about 7.5 feet in the air.

I've just watched the goal again. Feels mad that people are blaming Ederson. Watch where he's stood when the ball leaves the crosser's foot and look how far beyond Ederson it travels. It's a whipped, really high and curling cross. No keeper is getting to that unless they were already stood at the back post, which would have been mental positioning. It's just a really good goal. A great cross that hit a 6'5 forward who was placed perfectly between Walker and Dias. Not every goal needs some sort of huge inquest or finger pointing. Good goal. Fair play.

I've just watched it back and I disagree. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap. That ball in was outrageous.

Bang on. It was a great ball in to no mans land. Unless Ederson had inspector gadget legs he wouldn't have got anywhere near the ball if he went to catch/punch it.

I think the best of 'area control' goalies would have attacked that. But Eddy is only above average in aerial control. So id say great cross.

Their cf is a really big unit and we did well to restrict him to one chance yesterday. Harsh to blame Ederson, as others have said it was an excellent cross by Townsend. Possibly Gvardiol could have done better in getting tighter to Townsend to stop the cross.

On rewatch, I agree. It was a perfectly executed cross. No fault on Eddy. At first I thought he could have attacked the ball early. I was wrong

I think he gets such accolades because he’s so good with his feet. But as a shop stopper I don’t rate him that much.

Why has nobody said this before?
