Amsterdam

Ann Franks house

Heineken brewery trip

Van Gough museum

5 flies restaurant

All worth a visit

Did the Heineken tour a couple of weekends ago, was pretty decent.

Good river trips to do, plenty around if you want to be active, other than that, chill out with a few ready-mades and watch the world go by down by the canals.

Was there a few months ago.

Stayed in a hotel a ten minute tram ride away from city centre - really nice, full english or continental breakfast from buffet - chicken sausages though not pork :-S

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g188590-d1382766-Reviews-WestCord_Fashion_Hotel_Amsterdam-Amsterdam_North_Holland_Province.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Revi ... vince.html</a>

Get an iAmsterdam card - free tram travel and free entrance to loads of places - <a class="postlink" href="http://www.iamsterdam.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.iamsterdam.com</a> Great value for money, I reckon we got double our moneys worth in the 3 days we had it running. Got there lunchtime Tuesday, only activated Weds morning and it ran for 72 hours.

Amsterdam Museum, Handbag Museum, Film Musuem (free ferry across the harbour), boat trip , zoo and Botanical Gardens just a few things we got from the card. Ann Franks house had massive queues everytime we went past as did Madame Tussauds.

Red light district was quiet through the day, as evening kicked in the 'lads' started turning up and it got a bit rowdier. Started to feel a bit seedy then. First few times you see the huge dildos and fetish wear in shop windows its amusing, after a few times you don't notice it.

We didn't do any cafes - intended getting a cake or two but we were so busy trying to get everything in we just didn't bother.

It's not overly expensive drink wise. Eating out was same.

Don't walk in the cycle lanes and make sure you look before you step into them - you will get hit, they don't give a fuck and will clip you. These would not work in the UK as there'd be fights every 5 minutes.

Notice how few overweight people there are and that no-one who appears to be local wears sports gear unless they're clearly going to or just left a gym

Spend ages being fucked about at Manchester airport - well over two hours constant queuing from checking in to getting to departure gate on way out. Then simply glide through Schiphol - if you get there and check in early there's loads of shops to wander round and kill some time.

The train to Amsterdam is in the same building as the airport - about £3 one way. If you're not sure the Information office is brilliant. Everyone is brilliant in fact - you'll not find a nicer bunch of people than the Dutch.

Disagree, it's a rip-off, but so is every tourist destination really.

We were paying between six and eight Euros for two beers or one beer and a short. No dearer than the more expensive bars in Manchester or a local pub in London ;-)

OP - beware of extra costs when booking anything involving Easy Jet/Ryan Air. You get no luggage allowance, you have to pay to check in online, there's card fees etc. Added over £100 onto the price we were initially quoted on the website. We had a budget and got what we wanted at that price - did some research on Trip Advisor, decided the hotel was pretty good, check transport links etc. Then clicked on 'book now' and next thing we've added £100 on with all the fucking extras.

You must know where to look then pal price wise because it's the most expensive place I've ever been on the ale! Minimum price I paid over 3 nights was 5 euro the average was 6 euro and we was paying 8 - 10 euro a pint in the bars later on round dam square.

Jesus - paid nothing like that, we were mainly on bottled beers or spirits. Might have been that we went in the smaller bars rather than the bigger busier ones? Bit like going in Sinclairs rather than the more upmarket places ;-)
