Re: £93 for Liverpool fans at Arsenal

No matter. The scousers will steal their allocation anyway. Probably take the seats too.

Re: £93 for Liverpool fans at Arsenal

I didn't bother to read the smaller writing on their protest posters earlier, but it seems the irony is sadly lost on them, re: not having a boycott.

I remember some of our fans taking a similar banner to The Emirates a couple of years ago.

Stewards took it off the fans on the premise of it blocking other spectators views. Even though the match hadn't started.

Err.... And the proper way being what? Charging more for a game than it would to go to Wembley for a semi or final?
Riiight, whereas we charged £1 for kids and £15 for adults at the weekend....

Fans of Liverpool concerned about being priced out of attending fifth round match at Emirates Stadium, with tickets expected to cost almost £100

Liverpool supporters group Spirit of Shankly has written to Arsenal urging them not to charge away fans almost £100 to attend next month’s FA Cup tie between the clubs.

Sunday’s fifth-round draw immediately sparked fears that many of the 9,000 Liverpool fans who travel to London for the mid-February fixture will face ticket prices of £93, thought to be one of the most expensive ever prices for an away ticket in English football.

That prompted Spirit of Shankly chair James McKenna to write to Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis and Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre to ask for the game not be designated a Category A match under the north London club’s current pricing structure.

McKenna called for the tie to be given the same designation as Arsenal’s fourth-round win over Coventry City, whose fans were charged £25.50, highlighting the plight of Liverpool supporters during November’s Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium.

He wrote: “The league game saw Liverpool fans charged £62 per ticket for a fixture played on a Saturday evening. The cost of the match along with the late kick-off saw many fans priced out and for those who went there were many difficulties using public transport to get home.

“We have been informed by Arsenal supporters that if we receive a 9,000 ticket allocation at Category A prices, this would mean that ticket prices could range from £62 to £93 for Liverpool Supporters.”

He added: “Liverpool fans have already been charged 72 per cent more than Everton for the league matches that have been played this season and we believe that this is completely unreasonable.

“Coventry’s FA Cup tickets were priced at £25.50 and we would request that tickets are priced in the same manner. Similarly, in the event that this match ends up being replayed at Anfield, that a similar arrangement is reached with our ticket prices.”

McKenna also called for both clubs to lobby for a fan-friendly kick-off time.

He wrote: “In fairness to the fans, we would ask that the consideration is given to those who need to travel considerable distances at great expense.

“The league fixture on 02/11/13 saw many LFC fans having to use rail replacement bus services to get home from a 5.30pm kick-off on the Saturday evening.

“Clearly, no consideration was given to those who actually attend the match from those setting kick-off times. We ask, that on our behalf, you push to make sure that we are not in a similar position again where fans will experience similar difficulties.”

The problem is that with an even more televised and commercialised game, more people want to go to the football than ever before. Football clubs don't care if they sell their tickets to a relatively small group of die hard fans, or a much larger group of "fair weather" fans. As long as they can keep upping the prices and shift most of the tickets they will continue to do so. Arsenal have proven that the clubs really couldn't give a toss for supporters' bank balances, least of all the away fans.
