My lad has just asked me this one and tbh it's stumped me....

If Chelsea win the Chumps and qualify as our 4th team, which club has to play in the qualifying round?

is it...

a. none of the 4
b. Chelsea
c. team that finishes 3rd

Think it would be none, top 3 automatic as would Chelsea for being winners, finishing 4th would be irrelevant

Well 3 get automatic and so do winners so yes I'm sure. I'm not sure who has to play the qualifying match instead though, which would perhaps be a tougher question.

When Liverpool won cl and finished 5th in league rules were changed to allow them to defend their cup by giving them a place in the qualifying rounds.Rules were than altered so any winner who failed to qualify via their own league position entered the next seasons cl in place of the lowest team from same league entering at the same stage as that team would have so Chelsea will be in the qualifying rounds but if they get through they will be seeded in group stage
