Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

Nov 85 played Portsmouth at Maine Rd. Kicked off in the Main Stand in the 2nd half, and wtf, lots of Portsmouth wearing suits. Fast forward a few hours and a few city lads out in the Merchants in town with mates who are rags, and a well known city fan (who still owes me 10p) comes in and says that a coachload of Portsmouth were in town looking for blues. Half an hour later, they turn up at the Merchants and it kicks off, where it rained bottles, glasses and stools on them and they couldn't get in the door and ran back to Piccadilly Gardens.
One of the lads from the Merchants ran into them on his own getting an arm broke with a baseball bat for his troubles, and the others followed to help him out leading to carnage all around Piccadilly for the next hour as more mancs turned up and wreaked havoc as the 50 Portsmouth shit it and scrambled back on their coach.
As well as the broken arm, there was a broken leg, a broken jaw and numerous cuts and grazes amongst the mancs, with Dibble running around slinging loads in the back of vans with a free lift to Bootle St. So I heard.

Mid 80's v West Ham and loads of them going in the Main Stand doing the Oakie Cokie. They then congregated after the game at the far end of Maine Road and then marched / charged up Maine Road chanting Irons Irons Irons..... Kicking City fans all over the place.

The following season they tried it again and after the game the biggest City crew I'd ever seen was outside waiting. Half of Moss Side's young males were there, chased and battered the Hammers. They stood out like a sore thumb mostly wearing yellow Slazenger jumpers.
Back in the 80s /90s, living in Essex deep in West Ham territory I used to work with a couple of ICF lads - they really respected City supporters - they told me how they had gone into the Kippax in small groups at one stage, trying to meet up into one large group but got spotted by City fans and escorted out by police - they were really wary of all the alleys round the ground - they looked upon City supporters as being like them, loyal, supporting a shit club that never won anything while all the bigger clubs got all the glory, they could see similarities between between both clubs.

I bet it was a bit tasty when Liverpool and Everton played at Maine Rd in the FA cup.
I bet city rivalries on both sides were forgotten that night !!
Was the night match the replay I think Everton got done on the Saturday with a late disallowed goal then lost the replay my mate at school was a program seller at Maine road he said Everton gave it em both games ( their neighbours )

Yeah I remember the thread. TRA was still there, Citizen Frank, Cosmic Dave, CRC, OxBlue, Nijinsky, CHT, Bilbo, Ribble Valley, The Hood, Deal...
MCFC Youth as well. And M14 of course. Ribble Valley was the gobby red who claimed he was a face at United but seemed more like a wannabe. Not sure if it was the Science Park but there was an incident where he claimed he was in “the vicinity”. Cue months of piss-taking, culminating in a City poster saying Ribble’s favourite pub was The Vicinity because he’s always in it!
