It's Quiet - a new dawn

Looks like we'll have just two fullbacks (Alves and Mendy) for the start of preseason. That early optimism is fading fast.

Are those two you think almost certain to happen?

Yeah, Alves just seems like "sign when you get here" type thing. It's all arranged, he'll just do the signing, medical and media work when he eventually gets to Manchester.

Mendy seems to just be a debate over 5m or so, Monaco might well win out because we want him there for preseason.

I agree about Alves and its not like we can be outbid on him. Mendy in theory we could get someone coming in with a much bigger offer but I doubt it. Seems that Monaco hold the key to Europe's transfers this summer - they'll be one rich club at the end of it

RB and LB just a do, mind you pre season is only about getting fit and used to any new system PEP has in store. Suspect Alves will know exactly what to expect. No need to panic Capt Manwaring :-)

Alves is surely all but done, no point having him fly in to sign the contract etc wasting his holiday when they can just say we'll do that first day back next week, the guy played in the champions league final and is 34, let him have a rest. There's also the fact he's played under pep before he's not going to need any time to get used to playing the way he wants, he can walk in and be up to speed from day 1. Mendy it would appear we're trying to push that through asap and now Monaco have a potential replacement i can't see there being much of a hold up with him now.

Walker and Bertrand are different for a number of reasons. The main one being they're English and both clubs will know we can't really walk away and look for alternatives as we need the homegrown quota. Additionally, if you're Spurs in particular, why not disrupt the start of pre-season for us? we're rivals, any advantage helps, they know we're not going to walk away and can make us wait as long as they want. The only issue for them is getting in a replacement, but that can all be lined up in preparation for the sale knowing they've got Trippier and if it did go tits up they're more than happy to keep Walker
