Yes but that doesn't change the fact that he isn't really Basque. Also my larger point is that he isn't a typical Bilbao player so the allure of their traditions shouldn't necessarily matter to him.

Basque Country extends into France and he's from French Basque Country which would qualify him.
He went to a basque football academy which would qualify him as well.
I understand that Basque country technically extends into France. I will put it another way. He is the second French player to play for Bilbao ever.
