It's time to buy a new TV

Ah good cheers.

I'm shit with technology. So there's nowt coming out that we know of that would make a 4K Bravia obsolete or useless in the next year or so?

You never buy anything if you keep waiting for the next improved tv's mines about 7 years old top of the range at the time and still fine.

Of course TV manufacturers want us to churn our TV sets and they regularly bring in new features but I agree with waspish regarding value.
However the latest feature does seem to be worthwhile. It is HDR with its associated WCG.
Effectively it emits more maximum light of both the TV and its colours where it is demanded by the content. Thats the rub, content must also be mastered in HDR for it to show as better on the TV. Most high end TV´s are now HDR and it should not be long before it spreads.

Personally I think its value to me will be watching TV with higher ambient light. I have great difficulty seeing my phone or laptop in sunshine conditions so cannot wait for it to spread to phones.

Also, it doesn't seem to have OLED technology which is the 'next' technology wave. Gives you sharper colours and deeper blacks. Seems a lot to pay for something that doesn't have that. If you haven't already, have a look on the what hifi website. They do pretty good reviews and will let you see what else you could get for that money. Have fun! whatever you get at that price will be pretty awesome. Are you connecting it to a sound system?
OLED? oh ffs. This is why I never end up buying anything.

Wouldn't attach to a sound system unless it's wireless due to the set up of my apartment and lack of carpets out here.

The way to go:

OLED TV
SONOS Playbar with wireless surround speakers and Bass speaker
*Avoid curved TV's (Gimmick)

Mate, a high quality 65 inch OLED TV by LG or Panasonic will cost £5k or less. Buy a Sonos wireless sound system with it, sound bar, subwoofer and rear speakers and you will have a system to die for and still have a wedge of cash left from your £8k. Thank me later! Good luck

A subwoofer in an apartment without carpets? Let me know how you get on as I have hesitated in buying a sound system with a subwoofer due to the potential nuisance to those living in the below apartment.

The floors are pretty thick, high end living and shit ;-)
