Liga Portugal Thread - 2023/2024

Porto once again with a dramatic win beating Rio Ave 2-1 away from home thanks to two 90th minute goals.

That’s 6 points gained in the last two match days with 90th minute winners. Porto aren’t playing well at the moment but they keep grinding out results and with Porto surely going on to play better as the season progresses these might be 6 huge points gained in the grand scheme of things.

Congratulations to SC Braga who qualify to the champions league for the third time in their history!

Incredible moment when you look at the size of the club and their growth since 2008.

It's a great league for groundhoppers too, with matches kicking off at different times but the teams primarily clustered in and around either Lisbon or Porto. Occasional outliers in holiday spots too like the Algarve or Madeira.

Ivan Jaime joins Porto from Famalicao for 10M. Talented player and a good move by Porto. Jaime is a player I would have loved at Sporting.

Also Porto are close to bringing back Francisco Conceicao to Porto from Ajax.

Benfica with the first convincing win out of any of the title challengers beating Vitoria SC 4-0 (they were undefeated heading into this game).

Really big game today between Braga and Sporting for anyone interested in watching! Kick off is at 18:30.

Porto score in the 19th minute of injury time.

No wonder only a few teams can win their league… ;-)
It’s a joke, but that’s a convo for another day. These new extra time rules are going to be extremely detrimental to the smaller teams.

Porto essentially played a literal extra time in a league game.
