Mercury Music Award Winner 2020 and other new stuff

Michael Kiwanuka is as much proof as anyone would need that not all modern music is ‘shite’. There are artists still making extremely good albums. Off the top of my head, Lana del Ray, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, Christina and the Queens, Kacey Musgraves, Alabama Shakes and established artists like Nick Cave and the Arctic Monkeys are still producing stuff outside their comfort zone. That’s before going anywhere near Beyonce et al. There is still good stuff to listen to if you keep your ears and mind open. Maybe @BlueHammer85 will run a top albums of the last decade thread for us. That would be quite interesting to flush out new stuff for folk.

Sufjan Stevens new one out on Friday. Bit more electronic again but what I've heard sounds good.

Not a huge Run the Jewels fan, but this was a good one:

Did anyone hear about the controversy around Rina Sawayama?

One of the best albums of the year, but because she's technically Japanese, even though she's been in the UK since she was 4, she wasn't eligible.

He's American, but this is the third of his Manchester trilogy.

A hint of Tame Impala.
