Premier League Games 20/21/22 August '22

So one against us of you’re correct. And 3 in iur favour in my earlier comment. So a net win then in our favour!!
No idea what you're talking about. The article said we benefited from VAR by 1 point. But missed out the most important overturn against us. That cost us 2 points. So net/net, we were worse off.

This article is horseshit. They have conveniently missed out the Sterling disallowed goal against the Scousers that resulted in a 3 point swing. And unlike the others, that VAR decision wasnt even correct
Yeah some ridiculous logic. "We take only the first VAR overturn in each game, because the calculation considers that any subsequent VAR incident wouldn't have happened because the whole direction of the game has been altered."

So by that logic, if the VAR incident hadn't have happened, the way each team played the game from that point on would obviously have changed too. Plenty of teams after getting a VAR goal will play conservatively to try and protect their lead and come away with a 1-0 win. Or conversely, against a team like us, an early VAR penalty scored might force our opponents to open up to chase the game, causing us to win 4-0 with counter-attacks, at which point the VAR decision is deemed to have not affected the outcome of the game because we won by 4 anyway, which may be true, but certainly isn't in many cases. There's also the issue of referees changing the way they referee because they know they have VAR as a backup.

But perhaps the stupidest idea is that a team who has favourable decisions overturned has somehow lost out because of VAR. If a team has lots of unfavourable VAR decisions, all it is evidence of is that they got more favourable decisions from the on-field referee in the first place. And since plenty of the more subjective and borderline decisions aren't overturned by VAR, they likely still get more decisions in their favour. For decisions like "Was their enough contact to go do?" certain teams may still be getting the rub of the green because they're not subject to the same scrutiny from VAR.
