Root canal\

I've lost count, some failed eventually and the tooth was lost others have lasted me for years. The specialist route is the way to go, the average Dentist does not do a very thorough job at all. To do it properly might require multiple visits and x-rays taken with files inserted to ensure they've got all the canals and cleaned them fully.

I've been on the Bridgewater Canal so may be able to offer advice, what exactly is wrong ?

Just askin'

Had two - one canine (no. 3) and one back tooth.
Didn't have any problems initially, although both broke and needed replacing several years later (not sure how many). It isn't the whole Steve Martin/Bill Murray long slow root canal business.

Mine were done fairly easily with my usual NHS dentist.

My last trip to the dentist for a check up I said back tooth of one next to it was giving me a bit of pain on and off. X-rays done and no infection or issues seen. I should have left at that point.

He then puts a cold thing on both teeth - made me jump was painful I thought. I was wrong. He then gets me to hold a wire and then put an electric charge through both teeth. Now that was fucking pain. Transpires he just wanted to check I still had feelings in my teeth and the nerves weren’t shot to see if I needed root canal. Moral of the story is if your dentist gives you a wire to hold, grab his balls and see if he still wants to electrocute you. Obviously if it’s a lady dentist take it like a man and don’t cry.

I have to have one next month, all my old ones have broken , all going at the same time , it is a pain, literally ! I think if you pay you get better materials that nhs basics

I've had two canal root treatments without anaesthetic. The reason was because I'm allergic to a local anaesthetic and my dentist wouldn't give me a general anaesthetic because he said I produce too much saliva and I could choke. He was reluctant at first to go ahead with it but I convinced him that I would be ok with the pain. He told me that he had never done this procedure before without any anaesthetic. He said that the only reason he agreed to do it is because he'd been my dentist 20 years(at the time) since he graduated, and I hadn't complained of having any dentistry pain before.

All I can say is it's not something I'd recommend because the pain was quite excruciating but i somehow managed to blank it out.

I nearly bit my tongue off once when eating a pie after being anaesthetised due to anaesthetic lasting about 12 hours. I couldn't feel the pain of almost biting through my tongue but i sure noticed the blood gushing out. That's not something i recommend doing either!

Good luck @idahoblues, you'll be ok mate.
