Ukraine have been knocking over 20+ a day for 2 weeks now. Counter battery fire and UAV artilary detection/destruction is now really ramping up.

Is it not just a suicide mission? The Russians will throw everything at them.
The cupboard is becoming a little empty of things to throw at them when they are sending tanks from the 1950s into battle. Plus all the good stuff will be committed deep inside Ukraine, it’s a long way to reposition it in Belgorod.
They’ve probably been looking at weak areas on the front line and thought this was the best place to go and start causing mischief. Russia have to go and sort this out which weakens their front line somewhere else Ukraine is looking at.

All of it undermines Putin. That is the goal.
