Villa Vs City Post Match Thread

'Mon Spurs.

Not overly concerned by that today, we're going to have off days. But we all know, having won the league twice, that you can't afford too many fuck ups in a season. West Ham at home and Spurs away are our fuck ups so far. Games and circumstances in which we cannot drop points.

Cardiff away, Norwich away, Villa away spring to mind in 2013-14.
Arsenal away, Sunderland at home, Fulham away spring to mind in 2012-14.

There are probably others I've forgotten, and other games we didn't win which weren't really fuck ups.

We can't afford too many more than that. A point away from home isn't really a bad result, but off the back of a decent win in Europe, going into an international break, against bottom of the league, and 2 hours before Arsenal kick off to go top, this goes down as a fuck up. More so that Arsenal could be 5 points clear before we next kick a ball!

Not to mention the fact that we've got a resurgent Liverpool next at home and that dreaded trip to the Emirates before a busy festive period. Today was perfect for a 0-1 or 0-2 away win. We don't get many, but we tend to get the odd couple in a title winning season.

Wigan away in 2011-12. Villa away in 2011-12. Wolves away in 2011-12
Palace away in 2013-14, Newcastle away in 2013-14, Hull away in 2013-14

We don't play brilliantly. We don't hit cricket scores. We just get the job done and take 3 points at very important times. I have a feeling today was meant to be one of those. We've had one already this season, Palace away, today should've been number 2.

Not the end of the word, a couple of questionable substitutions (timings!) but it just makes the next game against Liverpool even harder.

**Then again, Spurs might pull off a shock and beat Arsenal! LOL

We praised Pellers for getting it right v Seville. But today he got it completely wrong. Can't believe we played 3 holding midfielders in a game where we were going to dominate the ball. We had to start with Sterling, Navas and KDB behind.

Plus the decision to not bring on Kelechi when bony got injured or even after an hour was an absolute shocker.

Overall though ..... showed decent form in last couple of months and hopefully after the break our 2 best players will be back.

KDB looks like he needs a break - hope Belgium give him some rest too.

Taking this off in another direction, perhaps...

The manager has previously stated it is difficult/can't for Toure to play three games in a week?

What's the truth? It was crying out for him to be subbed within 20 minutes of the start.

Far too much respect shown by the selection in the middle, even then, not starting Toure would have opened up much more options.
Having made it to half time (luckily) he should have been hauled off before the second half. Liability today.

[I'm OTE="Millwallawayveteran1988, post: 8976444, member: 32909"]There is seriously no way of knowing that. We are prone to lapses whoever is playing. West ham was 3 points dropped now two at Villa. We have seen this before. This sloppiness and slow start to games can hurt us. Both those games after CL games too so maybe it does have some impact on us.[/QUOTE]

I'm just trying to be positive

This Villa team had lost 7 on the spin, new manager or not it was criminal we didn't come back with the three points, let alone score a goal. These are the kind of games that will come back to haunt us later down the line if we're not careful.

Pellegrini needs to be managing these games much better, Kelechi coming on with 7 minutes to go was a joke and Yaya should have been off by H/T. There was no need to start with a similar formation and tactical plan to that of the Sevilla game, this is bottom of the league we were playing today, low on confidence and quite frankly there for the taking.

We only displayed any urgency in the final 15 minutes, we seem, as with last year to be taking the smaller teams lightly and start the game strolling around thinking we can just turn up and get the 3 points, just as with Norwich the other week.

Pellers can't motivate this team against the smaller sides, and was proven again today.

That's why Kun is a big miss. We had chances, but our finishing is not what it should be.
Thought 1st half was poor. We should have got a couple 2nd half.
Hey ho. But for all you mard arses that cannot take not winning, you are the ones
that need to take that good hard look in the mirror. Some reactionary over the top post
and downright insulting posts against the team you support. Come on i thought we are
supposed to be better then that.
