What's your favourite decade for football?

90's. Used to eat, sleep and breath the game. Played to a pretty high standard then got released and found that all the stuff I'd avoided when trying to make it was fucking great and my love of the game took a back seat.. :-)

This one, the rest were fucking shite for a blue in a sea of reds. Not even close for me.
I used to enjoy wearing my City shirt back in the day when abroad and you'd strike up loads of conversations with other fans who were always sound with you for being blue.
Those days are long gone though, these days people tend to think you're a **** for being a blue! Haha!

That is true tbh, i enjoyed explaining i supported city and the lads i met at the pool would be like 'huh' but the dads at least knew hehe. They even gave you a solid nod sometimes. In those years you never got hassle either because Moss Side and Manchester in general was known for gang shootings and Moss Side was world famous for it's gun crime. For other 10yo's on the costa del sol that was enough to make me off limits to scrap with. As far as they were concerned they could get shot and i did nothing to discourage this pov haha. the innocence of youth eh, fuck sake i hate being grown up.

The seventies without a doubt. The rags were in Division Two when I started supporting City. Most of my family were rags but I was never gonna go that way despite the brainwashing.

To me football will always be Gerald Sinstadt's commentary, Kick Off on a Friday evening and Shoot! magazine coming through the door.

All this and the FA cup final being on tv all day Saturday, watching the teams have breakfast, on the coach to Wembley etc. It made the final very special. Now unless City are in it I am not bothered about the final.

70's.

I think most of us will favour when we were kids/first started getting involved. I used to have paper rounds to fund away trips. I regularly go to 15 league always a season, now I maybe do 1/2 always at the most and any Wembley trips.

As others have posted wearing a city shirt over our poor period was like a badge of honour, I always made a point of flying in one, these days I make do with a beech towel, shorts and baseball caps when there.

The discussions I used to love with random plastics/fans don't happen now as I can't be arsed with 'oil money', ruining football etc which is sad. Chatting with other fans and spreading the gospel was a big part of being abroad.

It will be the 2020s.
Domination by City with a team including half a dozen home grown players, some of whom would walk into any team and are truly described as "world class" whatever that means.

Historically, the 1970s.
The last time it felt like pre-commercialisation with clubs run by local businessman, butcher, TV shop owner, scrap metal dealer. etc.
But then again, the 1970s was probably the best decade overall.

The "decade" between 1966 and 1975 for me. From winning the Second Division title, to winning everything in the next few years, AND watching the rags getting relegated playing Maureen - type football.
It all depends on when you started watching them as GDM said.
The 2010s give me as much enjoyment, though, with the level of technical ability at a far higher level. But that's also due to a quantum leap in sports science, medicine, etc from that era.
