Sergio Aguero - 2016/17 performances

Hummm? Not sure about this, if that were the case, then every ball that hits a defending player, that subsequently crosses the line would be an own goal, because, in your words...

"The Keeper "could" have saved it."

But we know that is not the case, from the god that is Wikipedia....

In association football, an own goal occurs when a player causes the ball to go into his or her own team's goal, resulting in a goal being scored for the opposition.

The fact that the defending player touches the ball last does not automatically mean that the goal is recorded as an own goal. Only if the ball would not have gone past the goal-line but for the defending player would an own goal be credited. Thus a shot which is already "on target" would not be an own goal even if deflected by the defender. In this case the attacker is awarded the goal, even if the shot would have otherwise been easily saved by the goalkeeper.
This is the correct interpretation. And the issue was that Aguero's touch find not send the ball goalbound, the defender's deflection did.

It was a close call, but I'm in agreement with the view that the ball would not have gone in.

We need a big performance from Sergio tonight, if he doesn't have a good night I feel we may struggle to break Monaco down. Really need to see him play his part in the team to link play.

I've been one of Sergio's biggest critics, not because I enjoy being a contrarian either, but if he's dropped today then what the hell?

At the minute it is a vicious circle with Kun. He needs a run of games to get the confidence but in order to get that he also he needs the types of performance that convinces the current manager he is fully in tune for what is expected.

I've heard from a reliable source that he'll start from the bench tomight with kdb/sterling playing as the false 9.

I would have thought that would be a good move for the game in Monaco (if the result from the first leg was a narrow win for us or a draw) but shocked if it happens tonight.

If it is a false 9 tonight then it's purely tactical and in fairness I can understand it, even if I disagree.
What it doesn't mean, and I'm not sure why people are suggesting it, is the end for Sergio. It means nothing of the sort. It's just the formation Pep feels suits us best for this particular game.

Not disagreeing. How do you think Aguero responds mentally? Think his ego can take it?

After getting dropped vs Barcelona away and then having a great game in the home tie, it will be disappointing if he's dropped for this.

I've seen nothing in the 6 years he's been here to suggest he has an ego, so yeah, I think he'll be fine. We did similar against Barcelona if I remember correctly.

He doesn't have a ronaldo type ego but he knows he can walk into any team anywhere, what we don't know is if he wants to play for pep,not everyone does,we are emotionally attached to players like him and zab over here

He will put on a brave face... Its got to hurt deep in his soul. He is a winner and wants to be on the pitch. Its his reason for being.

I dont know what's going on behind the scenes, if I had to find out only found out a few moments before the match.. I would probably have a little cry. Then again I dont handle rejection well.

For me Sergio deserves to start tonight.

Thanks Karen. I know that. I love Zab as much as anyone and I'm glad he got another year. When Zaba kissed the badge was a top moment in my brief 8 years with you guys. Kun has a pretty important moment too :). That's a great point you made with Kun and one I've sensed wasn't going to end well for a while now :(

In certain it won't be a false 9. But if it is, then I'm sorry, it does mean Aguero isn't favored and that strongly suggest he might leave.

No one knows what will happen, but its a little head in the sand to suggest benching our main guy at home doesn't indicate anything. Well it does.

So barring a tweak or last minute injury, if I don't see his name I'd be worried his time here is coming to a close.

Sure this match wouldn't be definitive, as he played a few days ago. But it is sure bloody telling!

What? Come on Pablo. I love the guy too. But he is a star player, of course he has an ego.
