General Videogame Thread

Hard to believe anyone gave that game a 10/10 considering all the absolutely crippling bugs it appears to have? Computer game journalists aren't exactly known for their integrity though

Has anyone played Ghost Recon today?

I was on a clan for GRAW and GRAW 2 that was 4th ranked in the world at one stage, and lived for those games, but weirdly can't be arsed giving the new one a shot.

Last one left me cold and this one looks like The Division expansion and not much else.

Anyone played it?

Zelda?

It's the best game ever made. In fact it's not even close. People will still be talking about this in 25 years like they do with Ocarina.

It's weird how that happened really there wasn't a single person with a Saturn I knew who didn't love it, same with the Dreamcast(which was stocked with unique gems) both of those seemed to come out at the wrong time though IMO. With the prices of the hardware and the games you need to be aware people aren't going to switch(or be allowed to by their parents) soon after forking out for a different console and also the hardware didn't seem to shift in price, they didn't seem good at bringing the manufacturing costs down as others did from what I remember.
The timing of release certainly didn't help the Saturn and Dreamcast; the former was blown away by the PlayStation, and the latter came out sort of mid-generation (much in the same way Nintendo consoles do today) and people weren't quite ready to fork out so much moneys so soon again (and by they time they were, they wanted the PS2).

But what really killed those Sega consoles was the lack of third-party support. For example, EA didn't make games for the Dreamcast - just think how many people bought their sports titles!

Both consoles had great exclusives and I love them for it (still play my Dreamcast occasionally), but unless you had access to Japanese imports then they just weren't as viable options as the Playstations and the GameCube.

Ffs man. I genuinely count Zelda games as something that have actually shaped my life in more or else every single way. Interest in exploring, travelling, music, cinematography, games etc stems hugely from this game series more than most things, so statements like that make it absolutely painful that I'm not saying playing it right now. God I need a switch.

Much cheaper to get a second hand wiiu, add a usb drive and an sd card and you can play xenoblade too. 500 hours of your life gone for £150 ish.

I've got one mate but I just want to experience that Hyrule joy wherever tbh...

Bollocks. The Witcher 3 shits all over it in every department.

Loved zelda. Especially Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask on the GameCube.

Anyone looking forward to the PS 4.50 update? Should be coming out either today, tomorrow or Thursday.

Main feature and one I'm most looking forward to is the ability to attach an external HDD via USB etc.

A bold statement. Have you finished BOTW yet?

Nope not yet. It's a fun game don't get me wrong but maybe cos I'm not blinded by nostalgia goggles having not really been into the other Zelda games I really don't get the hype for it. There are better open world RPG's out there. The Witcher 3 was just perfect and the DLC for that game just made it even better.

They know they aren't competing with Playstation and Xbox for a premium sit on the sofa play AAA games console. They're offering something different, it'll be a second console for the heads and something that appeals to the casual market. There are going to be a tonne of great games ported that aren't feasible on Android tabs but now you can take with you on the bus or whatever.

Personally I think it's a bit cheeky. The chip is basically the same as an Nvidia Sheild, which was being sold for just over a hundred. The margins on this thing are going to be beserk.

I'd still like one tho. The package as a whole is pretty cool.
Can't see it happening but if they did a deal with Nvidia to release their games on the shield, think of the sales they could achieve, they could maybe even get an improved deal on the royalties they pay for the SOC.

I haven't paid attention to consoles in a long while so I wasn't aware they were using a Nvidia SOC(it used to be AMD that offered the best deals) but from a quick glance it seems to be the same SOC(Tegra X1) as the SHIELD Android TV at a lower clock speed but paired with more RAM. Maybe the plan was to save on hardware R&D and pump the majority of their budget into plenty of exclusive games... still hard to justify the price of the hardware comparing it to the Shield not sure what the games library is like but I'm guessing they should have quite a few games to choose from on that by now.

What part are you up to?

Kah Mael Shrine.
It's difficult to get much from that as you can tackle the shrines in any order from the start of the game. You're entitled to your opinion though. I agree that The Witcher 3 is the finest high-fantasy RPG ever created and makes an absolute mockery of Bethesda games etc.

I'm not particularly a huge Zelda fan. I love Ocarina of Time. I played Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess and Wind. Waker once each and found them to be solid games but not particularly amazing.

I've had the past two days off from work, and being unwell have had the chance to put well over 40 hours in to Breath of the Wild. I've done 2 of the 4 Devine Beasts and explored most of the map, maybe not in as much detail as I'd like due to the scale of the thing. Just got the Master Sword and Hylian Shield tonight and have completed about 40 of the Shrines. In my opinion it probably is the best Zelda that's been made and it is an extremely well crafted game. Art style is pretty beautiful, great vistas etc.

I'm playing with Pro HUD enabled (no mini map etc) and it's really refreshing to be playing a game that doesn't hold your hand and just throws you in to the world and says 'go do whatever you like'. I haven't watched the videos because spoilers but I've heard people have gone straight to Calamity Ganon within 12 minutes of starting the game. I think it's pretty awesome that you can do that.

I'm having fun with it. It's not a shit game by any stretch. I mostly bought it as something to pass the time until Mass Effect comes out and so I can actually use my Wii U again but I'm enjoying it but I don't think it's the best game I've ever played.

Did the closed and open beta and that was enough.

For a game that bigs up the free roaming nature of getting to missions the driving mechanics are shit. Although that might have been sorted. Judging by the reviews though, probably not.

Just Cause story line with under par graphics.

Just played GTA online and that looks better than Wildlands. A 4 year old game.

The other day on Game Rankings or one of those sites that aggregates scores, Zelda became the highest rated game of all time.

Just seen that it now has more perfect scores on Metacritic than any game in history and will end up.as the most critically acclaimed game of all time there too.

For a new game that's a console launch title that is phenomenal
