Monaco - Post Match thread.

I never had the belief, based on our poor performances in the past in the league, that we could have gone far this campaign anyway. We have been Jekyll and Hyde. Looking forward to next season when we get quality defenders and Jesus upfront assuming of course we stay in the top 3.

11 more games in the league, 10 points off chelsea, 33 points to go. It's a big ask but we can now focus on getting there or thereabouts. Disappointed with tonight but I thought we are weaker defensively this season than previous.

Despite the defence be bad all season the management made no attempt to even slightly address it in January instead just rotates the same shit every week and uses the same tactics

All the blame has to go down to Pep tonight. He was naive and frankly, arrogant, to go there and attack.

with a 2 goal lead in a away game, you dont play 5 attacking players and leave the back exposed. Should have had another player like Yaya or Fernando in the middle with Ferny to whether the storm at least for the 1st half

There was oceans of space between Ferny and Kev and Silva that killed us, not on the flanks. Kev and Dave weren't tracking midfielders in the 1st half.

Some fucking bellends in this thread as per

We were shite first half which cost us the game , nothing to do with tactics , we just didn't come out with any determination to impose ourselves

Second half we dominated apart from a split second on a set piece

This team needs to grow and nights like this will help going forward , we will ready this time next year

I agree to a point but it won't be this team that grow as half the shite will be gone. Defence not good enough, as someone posted earlier the fullbacks played for Wenger years ago and our midfield lacks a NDJ or GB or the tenacity of a Tevez

Yaya does not have the legs anymore, but he should have started in a midfield 2 with Dhino. KDB should not have started and his passing game and general play is not good enough at the moment.

Lost this game in the first half, no pressing no urgency, shite performance.

Guardiola messed up tonight and needs to take some of the blame

Totally let down by the De Bruyne and Fernandinho today.......both gave the ball away too much (and committed fouls) in dangerous areas. the defence individually did Ok.... But were offered very little protection.
I'd agree with the starting line up.....but would have soon changed when we couldn't keep the ball....Yaya, in hindsight would have been a better bet.
Should still have gone through.....we had enough chances.....got nothing from the ref......not even the correct amount of injury time!
At least we can concentrate on the league and cup.....without a fixture pile up now......every cloud !

Shocking first half. Absolutely brilliant second, and still very unlucky to go out. You can't really pick out any individuals though and I wonder what our mindsets were going into the game as we simply just didn't turn up. But the second half leaves a good taste honestly and I see no reason to go on a meltdown or anything.

He was particularly arrogant defending that free kick I thought.

Should have brought on an actual defender.

No one ever said we would, progress is all we want, especially after we've moved hell and earth to get this guy here. I'm all for giving him time, but the fact is that we have not moved forwards at all.

The single positive right this second is Sane, IMHO.

So what time do you give him. 1 game, 10 games, 100 games.
I think that there was always going to be difficulties playing this system, with the personnel we have.
We've seen it enough times this season. If it doesn't improve when Pep gets his players, then i will start to worry.
Tonight is still a big disappoinment, as we threw that away.

Thought the team selection was ok (though personally would have had Yaya in there) as we showed 2nd half. It was the tactics of sitting deep with no pressure on the ball in the first half that cost us badly. We should have gone after them from the start.

I really don't want to hear any more 'we have no history in Champions League' excuses. We were poor defensively, in both games, and matters could have been even worse had Monaco scored the penalty in the first leg.

We didn't lose because of the defence we lost because our big players went missing. Why the fuck did yaya not play???
