It's Quiet - a new dawn

morning folks, so was @tolmie's hairdoo just pissing around yesterday then? I think I preferred it the other year when he just stated our targets! am shit at working out the clues and at times his video choices are woeful! lol (sorry tolm!) ;-)

I'm not really banking on the academy and loaners I'm simply arguing they are better as backups than spending money another player. It's not the colossal risk ppl think it is. Klopp gives Woodburn and Trent a chance because playing one youth player (your best) around your top players isn't as much of a liability as ppl think. They improve and shine in these circumstances as well.

I will also disagree that Peps legacy is tarnished, if we have to spend 200m in the transfer window, Pep wins the league and youth weren't given a chance, then people will say Pep won because of money. It's so obvious to me everyone would say that and they'd be right.

Our season has been hampered by massive injuries: kompany, Delph, gundogan, Jesus that makes us think our squad sucks, but looking back I think really the fullbacks just need to be addressed and maybe a goalkeeper (I don't think Pep will do this). The attack is young and will get better with time and truly doesn't need bolstering with what's coming in.

In regards to attacking midfielders, Silva is definitely one, can't be argued. Just because Pep plays with floating 8s doesn't change the kind of player he is, fast, agile, dribbler and can thread a through ball to our forwards (I honestly think Sterling can fit this mold but that is another discussion). Silva is also regularly the most forward of our 3 midfielders and becomes the second striker when we press in a 442. Kevin is an attacking midfielders but not agile or quick enough, he is kind of like Kroos. A more pure attacker like Silva is need imo but I already mentioned we have good backup in loanees and the academy to him.

I agree with much of your original post but I do think that you're being a tad optimistic to expect a dramatic improvement in the injury record next season. I expect the club will make its plans based on the assumption of a similar injury record.

What I mean when I say Gabby and Mbappe can play on the wings is that they'll give us a bit of fluidity whenever we chose to play 433 because we can line up with a front 3 of Gabby, Unal and Mbappe. Besides @Jazzman made a good point about him not being able to get a work permit so I guess he's not gonna be in the squad next season.

Like I said earlier before mate, I don't expect them to be in the starting line up, I just think we'll get to see them play a bit more than we have this season. Having said that pre season is gonna be vital for him.

@Jazzman is actually wrong, he will get a work permit easily.

Anyone who thinks he won't get a work permit, compare him to Iheanacho, who was an 18 year old who'd never played a professional game of football in his life, let alone for Nigeria.

Enes is a Turkish international competing to be the youngest top scorer in the Eredivisie since Ronaldo in 1994. He will get one through the points based appeals system comfortably.

Harsh but true. I am really optimistic about the future though.

Look at the list of our needs that you laid out. Ederson seems a lock, there is no way we don't get two new fullbacks AND Maffeo. Same for CB and Attack. The only area I am worried about is the DM/Pivot position. I haven't heard us linked with anyone who I think is really the long term answer. But with that said we should be a completely different team next season. You want winners who will change the environment? As young as he is, Jesus is that guy. Hopefully a couple of the other new guys bring that passion too. Sanchez certainly has it.

The only player we've been linked with that I'd like to see in the pivot role is Corentin Tolisso, and we've been linked twice in the last week which is nice, but he's also possibly a bit too attack minded to do the job...he likes getting forward and sometimes plays just behind the striker for Lyon, but he has played defensive mid and right back for long periods before.

Bonucci, Sanchez, Mbappé, Jesus all appear to be winners. the last two are young but yo can just see it in them.

Our injury record this season has largely been very good. When Gundogan got injured Pep said it was still the best season of his career in regards to injuries.

We've been unlucky with Jesus getting his foot trod on in just the wrong place, and Kompany has continued as everyone pretty much expected. Gundogan is probably in the middle - he was unlucky, but how surprised we we really? He's an injury prone player.

Other than those 3 it's been pretty good for everyone. Sergio has stayed fit, KDB too, Silva has had his best season in years, Delph has had a much better season, Clichy has had one of his best seasons injury wise.

A lot of our usually injured players have had a clean bill of health.

So you'd drop Jesus to the bench. Good one

You would both happily drop Jesus. Unbelievable.

If we end up with 5 forwards clearly everyone is going to be rotated a ridiculous amount and the specific players will be chosen based on form, fitness and the opposition, so pointing out specific cases "OMG You dropped Jesus for Mbappé!!!" is completely pointless. You might as well point out how he's dropped Kompany, Gundogan and Fernandinho.

All too believable - it's the transfer forum, where shiny new toys last about 5 minutes before the next one rolls in.

This one is particularly ironic considering you're advocating dropping Sterling or Sané (two of this seasons best players and two the whole gameplan is based on) for Jesus, which is the epitome of "shiny new toy" syndrome.

Not really, Jesus is simply on another level to either Sterling or Sane. So you don't think he'll be starting most games next season when available?

He's played three games, you've literally just proven that you've got "shiny new toy" syndrome, the sock puppet you accuse others of having, and you haven't even realized it.

Projection much?

I've watched GJ for considerably longer than three games, certainly long enough to reach the above conclusion.

Five games? Six?

You regularly watch the Brasileiro Série A and are judging his performances there in comparison to Leroy Sane playing in the Bundesliga or Raheem Sterling in the Premier League? OK.

But nobody here is demonstrating any shiny new toy syndrome, except possibly you, and to come in here and accuse others of it in a transfer speculation is just being an asshole.

Oh I'm hurt, your response is an insult - fine. Btw do you think our wide play would have been as toothless on Sunday with GJ out there?

The wide play was toothless because the midfield was moving the ball slowly, and because Pep made Sterling play narrow.

So if Jesus was available I imagine what would have happened is Aguero would have been watching from the bench.

Not at all, I was disappointed before the game GJ wasn't at least on the bench. I even named him ahead of Aguero in my starting XI in the pre-match thread. I love GJ.

What I don't love, is people baselessly accusing others of having a "shiny new toy" when discussing making other signings. We can rotate, switch positions and rest players and our squad should be at a level where it is sufficient to do that and we still win games. That's how we'll win a Champions League.

At what point do you stop, Sterling is miles away, Sane and Jesus is a strong combo.

Hopefully. I'd much rather have him than nacho atm
