The battle for 3rd place

Imagine the top 4 race next season.

City will be stronger. No doubt Chelsea will have improved. LFC look like they will be back in the Champions League, and therefore stronger. Utd will spend £200m plus. After a season of upheaval, Arsenal will have to spend big. Next season is going to be very difficult. We need to stay in the Champions League to compete with these teams.

Just because you're in it doesn't mean you have to progress in it , you can always play the stiffs in it and bow out gracefully and reduce your workload- much like we did gifting United progress in the milk cup.

Sick of fucking hearing about the CL being the be all and end all - it's not done Chelsea any harm not being in it.
CFC already had a very strong squad with few weaknesses. We don't. We're re-building. This Summer there will be a lot of competition for players and we need to be in the Champions League. And that's just the transfer angle. It also improves the players. And it's the most exciting competition.

One excuse that won't wash with me is the players are not able to do Pep's thing. The reality is we are playing very similarly to how we played under Pellegrini and Mancini. Lots of possession but little penetration.

I want to see what happens when Jesus plays up front. Really a forward line of Sane, Sterling, and Jesus fed by Silva and KDB should be cutting through defences. Aguero is a great finisher, but he does lack pace.

He's too decent to laugh at us. He's a gentleman is old Pellers.

He would be fully entitled to laugh though. He's spanked the arse of Guardiola as a manager in the hardest league in the world.

But he was old, and he wasn't cool and down with the kids so he had to go. He's a far better manager but that doesn't matter these days.
Have you forgotten last season already? Toure, Zab, Kolarov, Aguero etc all a year older. Pellegrini won with Mancini's team, and the reason we're struggling now was because we didn't replace players under Pellegrini's watch. Another problem is that we're without Kompany. Fans criticise and laud managers, but I am certain that mancini would not have won the league if Kompany had been injured. That's made a massive difference for City over the last 2 seasons.

Number of times this season we have taken our foot off the gas when leading easily. Be ironic if we get pipped on goal difference for 3rd.
More like we just cannot score goals. We're usually trying hard but just can not create clear cut chances. I don't think it's complacency

Was in the games we were winning easily and dominating when we definitely took the foot of the gas. Mainly earlier in the season and away from home.

You are right though we don't create enough clear cut chances when we are not in front and teams can just sit back

De bruyne and Silva actually have a lot to answer for here. Love them both but their goals return has been terrible. KDB in particular has lost his touch in front of goal, his long range shooting awful recently.

At least we know KDB can score. I am sure the goals will return. I'd play Delph. I know some fans don't rate him, but he is direct and can make runs into the box. I think there is more to come from him if and when he feels he belongs in the team.

I hope with all the transfer talk, the crop of young players coming through don't get forgotten. Diaz, Foden, Sancho etc maybe players who in 12 months time will be scoring or creating goals

Top 4 will not get any easier in future.

You have the Scum, Pool, Rent Boys, Arse and Spurs all chasing it then the Toffees are going to build a new stadium and the Toon with the right backing could also come into the picture.

That along with us would make 8 teams going for the 4/5 places on offer.

We suffer by being so adjacent to the most lauded fawned over bunch of twats in English football who got a free run from every other Club to infect themselves into the hearts of a country and worldwide fan base.

The Club do not help matters by alienating fans and ignoring their genuine concerns.

Lol this gets said every year, yet people like Everton get nowhere near and there are only ever really 5 or 6 teams going for 4 places

It does, but we've dipped down to a top 6 club now, and the other clubs are getting financially stronger. I think Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool are going to spend big this Summer.

To be fair when teams put at least 8 in there box covering all angles its pretty hard to make a clear cut chance and its probably why we miss so many opportunities, players will rush the chance knowing there be 2 to 3 players around them in the box! What we could do is player quicker and put the ball in the box first time.

No we're a top 4 club; if we hold our nerve as we should and secure top 4 that would be seven straight years of finishing in the top 4
Also we will spend big as well so I'm not worried

True but we're giving them time to get their 8 men in the box. Our problem is not getting midfielders into the area when we break. This is probably an age thing. Can't get up and down the pitch all match long, which is why Spurs are good at this, so much more energy throughout the entire game and always one (usually Ali) arriving in the area supporting the attackers. I really feel this is an area as important as the full backs/goalie situation that needs to be addressed in the summer. Energetic, goal scoring midfielder.

How many times do Sane, Sterling, Navas get to the by line and no one is in the box. Try Delph. Might not be as good on the ball as some midfielders we have but he does have the ability to score goals from midfield. KDB seems to have temporarily lost the knack so Delph is the next best bet
